Detailed observation of the structure of filiform papillae (FP) and microvasculature of those papillae in Japanese Azuma mole were described. In the anterior and medial regions, FP was cylinder in shape with two processes. In the posterior region, it had a long, sharp conical shape. The microvascular casts showed two types of hairpin-shaped capillary loops on three regions of the tongue. In the anterior and medial regions, the end of the capillary loops were shaped like a spoon. In contrast, in the posterior region, it was knot-like end of capillary loop. Since the shape of capillary loop was more complex in the anterior and medial regions than that in the posterior region, it was speculated that the spoon-like end of capillary loops of the FP in the anterior and medial regions supply nutrients to the filiform papillary cells and may be related to the movement of the tongue during mastication in Japanese Azuma mole.

Comparison of muscle activities during bench press at different angles in beginners.

J Phys Ther Sci

Department of Physical Therapy, Graduate School of Health Science, Takasaki University of Health and Welfare: 501 Nakaoorui-machi, Takasaki-shi, Gunma 370-0033, Japan.

[Purpose] The bench press can strengthen targeted muscles, such as the pectoralis major, deltoid, and triceps brachii. This study examined differences in muscle activities during the bench press at different angles in beginners to collect basic data and evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the bench press. [Participants and Methods] The participants were 15 male students with <1 year of training experience.

Unlabelled: Social cognition spans from perceiving agents and their interactions to making inferences based on theory of mind (ToM). Despite their frequent co-occurrence in real life, the commonality and distinction between social interaction perception and ToM at behavioral and neural levels remain unclear. Here, participants ( = 231) provided moment-by-moment ratings of four text and four audio narratives on social interactions and ToM engagement.

Minimizing Unnecessary Harvesting of an Extremely Thin Gracilis Tendon During ACL Reconstruction by Referencing the Diameter of the Doubled Semitendinosus Tendon Alone.

Background: The incidence of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) graft failure is inversely related to the diameter of the ACLR graft. When the diameter of a 4-stranded hamstring tendon graft with a doubled semitendinosus and doubled gracilis tendon (ST×2 + G×2) configuration is <8 mm, the gracilis tendon is often thin.

Hypothesis: (1) The diameter of the doubled semitendinosus tendon (ST×2) alone would be able to predict the probability of a 4-stranded ACLR graft having a diameter of ≥8 mm, and (2) there would be a specific cutoff value for the ST×2 diameter such that the addition of a doubled gracilis tendon (G×2) will not result in a 4-stranded graft with a ≥8-mm diameter.

Background: Observational studies suggest that hypertension affects brain cortical structure. However, the potential causal association has yet to be entirely determined. Thus, we aim to assess the causality between hypertension and abnormal cortical structure.

Purpose: To investigate if hip and knee alignment assessed 2 years after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is associated with compartment-specific radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA) 3 years later.

Methods: An exploratory analysis was conducted in the knee ACL, nonsurgical versus surgical treatment (KANON) trial (ISRCTN84752559); 115 subjects with acute ACL injury were assessed at the 2-year follow-up; full-limb images of the injured leg were acquired, and the neck-shaft angle (NSA) and hip-knee-ankle angle (HKA) were measured. At the 5-year follow-up, weight-bearing tibiofemoral and patellofemoral radiographs were obtained.
