The parameters of oral homeostasis were studied in patients with acute pneumonia before and after therapy. The redox potential, a shift of pH towards the acid values, decreased content of total protein, total and effective concentrations and reserve of albumin binding, and a drastic increase of toxicity index were detected. Analysis of oral fluid showed increased level of ionized calcium, nitrate anion, and decreased content of magnesium and ammonium cations.

In order to understand the spatial distribution, influencing factors, pollution level and sources of heavy metals in black soil profiles in Northeast China, black soil profile samples were collected from five sampling points in Haicheng City, Liaoning Province, with the deepest profile depth of 50m. The contents of heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn) in soil at different depths were analyzed, and the distribution characteristics and influencing factors of heavy metals in black soil profiles were analyzed. The pollution level of heavy metals in soil was evaluated based on the geo-accumulation index method and enrichment factor method, and the sources of heavy metals in soil were analyzed based on principal component analysis.

Ascertaining the Environmental Advantages of Pavement Designs Incorporating Recycled Content through a Parametric and Probabilistic Approach.

Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is a widely used end-of-life (EoL) material in asphalt pavements to increase the material circularity. However, the performance loss due to using RAP in the asphalt binder layer often requires a thicker layer, leading to additional material usage, energy consumption, and transportation effort. In this study, we developed a parametric and probabilistic life cycle assessment (LCA) framework to robustly compare various pavement designs incorporating recycled materials.

This study employs electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) to experimentally investigate the migration characteristics of light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPL) under various groundwater conditions. Through cross-hole measurements and time-lapse inversion, the migration process of LNAPL under three scenarios-unsaturated conditions, constant groundwater levels, and declining water levels-was systematically analyzed. The results indicate that LNAPL migration behavior exhibits significant differences under different conditions.

Effects of Low-Severity Fire on the Composition and Stability of Soil Organic Carbon in Permafrost Peatlands (Northeast China).

State Key Laboratory of Black Soils Conservation and Utilization, Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shengbei Street 4888, Changchun 130102, China.

Climate change and human activity are increasing the frequency of wildfires in peatlands and threatening permafrost peatland carbon pools. In Northeast China, low-severity prescribed fires are conducted annually on permafrost peatlands to reduce the risk of wildfires. These fires typically do not burn surface peat but lead to the loss of surface vegetation and introduction of pyrogenic carbon.

Stone cells are one of the limiting factors affecting pear fruit quality and commodity value. The formation of stone cell is highly correlated with lignin deposition. However, the molecular mechanism of stone cell formation and regulation is still unclear.
