The lack of validated outcome measures is a key limitation for the evaluation of drug efficacy in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In clinical trials with tegaserod, the Subject's Global Assessment (SGA) of Relief (a global measure that includes overall wellbeing, abdominal pain/discomfort, and bowel function) was used to identify responders. A total of 1680 patients with IBS with constipation were included in two clinical studies comparing tegaserod with placebo. The SGA of Relief was obtained weekly by a single, self-administered question with five possible answers. Responders for the SGA of Relief reported statistically significant (P<.001) and clinically relevant improvements in multiple IBS-related symptoms compared with nonresponders. Response was also associated with a significant improvement in quality of life. The SGA of Relief is reliable as a new outcome measure for assessing response to therapy in IBS patients and has demonstrated responsiveness and reproducibility.

Objective: To examine the association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and pregnancy morbidities, including preterm birth (PTB), gestational diabetes (GDM), preeclampsia, and small-for-gestational-age (SGA) among the general population in Japan.
Methods: The data were from the JACSIS study, an online-based nationwide survey conducted from July to August 2021 in Japan (N = 5444). ACEs included physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, neglect, childhood poverty, bully victimization, domestic violence, parental death, and parental divorce.

Objective: This study was undertaken to examine the association between different patterns of antiseizure medication (ASM) use during pregnancy and adverse obstetric outcomes (preterm birth, low birth weight [LBW], and small for gestational age [SGA]).
Methods: This retrospective cohort study used the Birth Certificate Application and National Health Insurance data in Taiwan (January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2018). We retrieved weekly ASM among pregnant women with epilepsy who were prepregnancy chronic users and used group-based trajectory modeling to identify distinct patterns of use.

Lidocaine is generally recognized and preferred for local anaesthesia, but in addition, studies have described additional benefits of lidocaine in cancer therapy, inflammation reduction, and wound healing. These properties contribute to its increasing importance in dermatological applications, and not only in pain relief but also in other potential therapeutic outcomes. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to enhance lidocaine delivery through the skin.

Acute laryngeal dystonia (ALD) is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of both first-generation (FGA) and second-generation (SGA) antipsychotic medication. Delays in diagnosis and treatment have been associated with mortality. We carried out a systematic review of antipsychotic-induced acute laryngeal dystonia using the databases Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, and EMBASE.
