For an energy-efficient induction machine, the life-cycle cost (LCC) usually is the most important index to the consumer. With this target, the optimization design of a motor is a complex nonlinear problem with constraints. To solve the problem, the authors introduce a united random algorithm. At first, the problem is divided into two parts, the optimal rotor slots and the optimization of other dimensions. Before optimizing the rotor slots with genetic algorithm (GA), the second part is solved with TABU algorithm to simplify the problem. The numerical results showed that this method is better than the method using a traditional algorithm.

We demonstrate magnetic induction heating (MIH) with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) as a new rapid and energy-efficient methodology for synthesizing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Acting as localized heat sources, these IONPs overcome the energy losses associated with traditional solvothermal synthesis, which enables a fast, uniform, and highly energy-efficient heat transfer process. The versatility of this method is illustrated for the successful synthesis of three different benchmark MOFs in good yields with high crystallinity.

Ultrasound has shown its benefits in the manufacturing processes of many pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. This study focused on the reactive crystallization system of an aromatic amine and explored the potential uses of ultrasound in both batch and continuous modes. In batch experiments, we studied the effects of different sonication conditions including power, duration, and starting point on final particle properties.

Induction cladding is a promising surface technology that combines the advantages of surface coatings and induction heating. It is an energy-efficient, environment-friendly, and cost-effective method that facilitates the fabrication of coatings with controllable thicknesses and ensures metallurgical bonding between the coating and the substrate. Owing to the high power-conversion efficiency of helical coil, induction cladding is particularly adaptable for the application of coatings on long shafts and rod parts, which find widespread use in mining and energy machinery.

The photomodulation of the helical pitch of cholesteric liquid crystals results in dynamic and coloured canvases that can potentially be used in applications ranging from energy-efficient displays to colour filters, anti-counterfeiting tags and liquid crystal (LC) lasers. Here we report on the analysis of a series of photoswitchable chiral dopants that combine the large geometrical change and bistability of hydrazone switches with the efficient helical pitch induction of the chiral motif, triptycene. We elucidate the effects that conformational flexibility, dispersion forces and π-π interactions have on the chirality transfer ability of the dopant.

Marine antibiofouling using low-amplitude electric pulses (EP) is an energy-efficient and eco-friendly approach, but potential mechanisms for preventing biofouling remain unclear. In the present study, the 3D adhesion dynamics of a model microorganism─ (PAO1)─under low-amplitude cathodic EP were examined as a function of applying voltage and its duration (). The results demonstrated that adhered bacteria escaped from the electrode surface even when EP was removed.
