Published: January 2004

Cytosolic free Ca(2+)and intranuclear Ca(2+)behave similarly in human neutrophils. However, conventional laser scanning at 350 ms/frame resolution at lower than physiological temperatures demonstrates that (i) the nuclear fluo3-Ca(2+)signal persists longer than the cytosolic signal in some (but not all) nuclear lobes, (ii) the neutrophil nuclear membrane and fine inter-lobe filaments present barriers to diffusion of fluo3-Ca(2+)and lucifer yellow, and (iii) the diffusion barrier correlates with condensed chromosomal material on the nuclear envelope and blockage of the movement of fluo3-Ca(2+)into individual nuclear lobes.

Background And Purpose: Segmentation imperfections (noise) in radiotherapy organ-at-risk segmentation naturally arise from specialist experience and image quality. Using clinical contours can result in sub-optimal convolutional neural network (CNN) training and performance, but manual curation is costly. We address the impact of simulated and clinical segmentation noise on CNN parotid gland (PG) segmentation performance and provide proof-of-concept for an easily implemented auto-curation countermeasure.

Background: A dual-syndrome hypothesis, which states the cognitive impairments in Parkinson's disease (PD) are attributable to frontostriatal dopaminergic dysregulation and cortical disturbance-each associated with attention/executive and memory/visuospatial dysfunction, respectively-has been widely accepted. This multisystem contribution also underlies highly heterogeneous progression rate to dementia.

Methods: Nondemented PD patients who underwent [I]N-ω-fluoropropyl-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4-iodophenyl) nortropane ([I]FP-CIT) SPECT and neuropsychological examinations were enrolled.

The phylogenetic studies of the tribe Alsineae (Caryophyllaceae) have revealed a clearer boundary between the genus and related genera, primarily relying on the morphological characteristics of style 3, stamens 10 and petals deeply bifid. However, the newly-published species in China, which have 5 styles or ten or more lobes per petal, challenge this boundary and necessitate further studies. In this paper, we reviewed six newly-published Chinese species of , utilising both molecular phylogenetic evidence from nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and four plastid regions (, , , ) and morphological evidence.

Neuropsychological performances and brain perfusion patterns in patients with first episode psychosis.

J Psychiatr Res

Department of Psychiatry, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ioannina, Greece. Electronic address:

Abnormalities in cognition are a pronounced feature in primary psychotic disorders and may appear long before the manifestation of the first-episode psychosis (FEP). Although brain functional changes may precede structural alterations, brain perfusion patterns in FEP and most importantly their correlations with cognition remain poorly understood. In the present study we assessed neurocognitive functions and regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in 53 patients with a diagnosis of FEP.

In this study, standard 2D lung lobe quantification is compared with two 3D lung lobe quantification software tools to investigate the clinical benefit of a 3D approach. The accuracy of 2D versus 3D lung lobe quantification is evaluated based on the calculated numerical ventilation-perfusion ratio (VQR) using a receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis.A study group of 50 consecutive patients underwent a planar lung scintigraphy (anterior/posterior) as well as ventilation/perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT/CT) to exclude acute pulmonary embolism.
