Over 300 million people globally are affected by rare diseases, many of which present predominantly with neurologic symptoms. Rare neurologic disorders pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges including delayed diagnoses, limited treatment options, and a shortage of specialists. However, advancements in diagnostics, particularly next-generation sequencing and expansion of newborn screening, have significantly shortened the time to diagnosis for many of these disorders.

Background Objectives: Scrub typhus is an acute febrile zoonotic disease caused by the obligate intracellular gram-negative bacteria Orientia tsutsugamushi. Growing data over the last few years on the Indian subcontinent suggest that it is one of the most widespread but under-reported diseases. The study aimed to document the clinical and paraclinical profile and evaluate complications of scrub typhus in severe and nonsevere pediatric age groups.

Purpose Of Review: Neuroprognostication after acute brain injury (ABI) is complex. In this review, we examine the threats to accurate neuroprognostication, discuss strategies to mitigate the self-fulfilling prophecy, and how to approach the indeterminate prognosis.
Recent Findings: The goal of neuroprognostication is to provide a timely and accurate prediction of a patient's neurologic outcome so treatment can proceed in accordance with a patient's values and preferences.
