The investigation of the effect of the cytochrome oxidase inhibitors sodium cyanide and sodium azide on the thermotolerance of the yeasts Rhodotorula rubra, Debaryomyces vanriji, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae showed that these inhibitors diminish the thermotolerance of R. rubra and D. vanriji, but do not affect the thermotolerance of S. cerevisiae. Taking into account the fact that, unlike the latter yeast, R. rubra and D. vanriji are nonfermentative yeasts, the difference in the effects of the inhibitors on the yeast thermotolerance can be readily explained by the different types of glucose utilization (either oxidative or fermentative) in these yeasts. The data obtained also provide evidence that there is a correlation between the functional activity of mitochondria and the thermotolerance of yeast cells.

Pathogenic variants in cytochrome oxidase assembly factor 5 (COA5), a proposed complex IV (CIV) assembly factor, have been shown to cause clinical mitochondrial disease with two siblings affected by neonatal hypertrophic cardiomyopathy manifesting a rare, homozygous missense variant (NM_001008215.3: c.157G>C, p.

The reduction of oxygen to water is crucial to life under aerobic conditions. Cytochrome bd oxidases perform this reaction with a very high oxygen affinity. Members of this protein family are solely found in prokaryotes and some archaea playing an important role in bacterial virulence and antibiotic resistance.

Multigene, genus-wide phylogenetic studies have uncovered the limited taxonomic resolution power of commonly used gene markers, particularly of rRNA genes, to discriminate closely related species of the nematode genus Heterorhabditis. In addition, conflicting tree topologies are often obtained using the different gene markers, which limits our understanding of the phylo- and co-phylogenetic relationships and biogeography of the entomopathogenic nematode genus Heterorhabditis. Here we carried out phylogenomic reconstructions using whole nuclear and mitochondrial genomes, and whole ribosomal operon sequences, as well as multiple phylogenetic reconstructions using various single nuclear and mitochondrial genes.

With their diverse species, mosquitoes are known to transmit the causal agents of diseases such as malaria, dengue, and yellow fever. Their high adaptability, attraction to humans, and variable adult behaviors make them a significant health concern. The focus on Aedes aegypti is significant for reducing vector-human contacts, monitoring insecticide resistance, and developing innovative vector management strategies.

Introduction: This article presents the fourth detection of macroscopic cystic lesions due to sarcocystosis in domestic pigs during routine meat inspection worldwide, and the first molecular detection of in a domestic pig in Poland. Pigs can become intermediate hosts for by accidental ingestion of oocysts or sporocysts present in food or water contaminated by the faeces of canids (definitive hosts).
Material And Methods: The affected swine showed no clinical symptoms such as weight loss, dermatitis or dyspnoea suggesting sarcocystosis.
