Background: APOE is highly pleiotropic, with the e4 allele the strongest genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) and associated with other cardiometabolic traits. The APOE*e4 allele demonstrates ancestry-specific differences in the risk for AD. Here, we investigated whether similar ancestry-specific effects are observed across other AD endophenotypes and modifiable risk factors for AD.

Introduction: The efficacy and safety of statins for secondary prevention in patients who have experienced a cardioembolic stroke are not well-defined. However, previous observational data reported hyperlipidemia as a risk factor for both ischemic and bleeding complications in patients with AF and previous stroke. Based on these premises, we conducted a sub-analysis of the RAF and RAF-NOAC studies to evaluate the efficacy and safety of statins in secondary prevention in patients with acute ischemic stroke and AF.

Introduction: Sodium Glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) possess pleiotropic effects, such as antioxidant, antifibrotic, anti-inflammatory, and vascular remodeling activities. Considering the lack of literature, a network meta-analysis was conducted to explore the impact of SGLT2is on endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness in the diabetic population.
Methods: Electronic databases were searched to identify randomized clinical trials evaluating the effects of SGLT2is on outcomes, such as Flow-mediated Vasodilation (FMV), Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV), and Augmentation Index (AIx).
Introduction: In August 2018, the Japanese PMDA approved nivolumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI), for previously treated, unresectable, advanced, or recurrent pleural mesothelioma (PM) based on the MERIT trial, a phase II study of 34 cases. However, concerns regarding limited evidence persist.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 83 patients with previously treated, unresectable, advanced, or recurrent malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) treated with nivolumab from August 2018 to May 2022.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has promoted an intensive investigation into the pathophysiological mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection, risk factors, and its impact on disease severity. Vitamin D has generated significant attention for its potential role in viral prevention and immune defense due to its pleiotropic functions, including immunomodulation and antimicrobial effects. This study aimed to assess serum 25(OH)D3 levels in patients with COVID-19 compared to those with other viral respiratory infections and to evaluate associations of vitamin D levels with symptomatology, clinical characteristics, presence of comorbidities and laboratory investigation.
