Background: Metformin, a commonly prescribed medication for managing diabetes, has garnered increasing interest as a potential therapeutic option for combating cancer and aging.
Methods: The current study investigated the effects of metformin treatment on human meibomian gland epithelial cells (hMGECs) at morphological, molecular, and electron microscopy levels. HMGECs were stimulated in vitro with 1 mM, 5 mM, and 10 mM metformin for 24, 48, and 72 h.

The human pineal gland is the largest producer of the hormone melatonin. Pineal acervuli (brain sand), calcified concretions in the pineal gland, have long been studied because of their association with ageing, melatonin production, and neurological disorders. The solid inorganic matter of the hydroxyapatite crystals often renders sample sectioning impossible, to the extent that the sections lose value.

Species of the family Echinostomatidae use diverse gastropod taxa as first intermediate hosts. However, identification of echinostomatid larvae often proves difficult because of incomplete information on their life cycles and lack of molecular data that can link larvae to the corresponding known adults. Here, echinostomatids that were isolated from freshwater limpets in South Africa were described using light and scanning electron microscopy, and ribosomal (28S, ITS, and 18S) and mitochondrial () DNA sequences.

Basal cell adenomas (BCAs) are benign epithelial tumors of the salivary gland, characterized by the proliferation of basaloid and luminal cells. In addition, a distinctive spindle cell stroma, that is immunohistochemically-positive for S100, is often observed in BCAs. Based on the ultrastructural findings, the S100-positive stroma was presumed to originate from neoplastic myoepithelial cells.

Oncocytic adrenal cortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant adrenal cortical tumor with limited documented case reports. Herein, a 65-year-old female patient presented with a large, solid adrenal mass. A diagnosis of oncocytic ACC was rendered with the following tumor characteristics: The tumor entirely consists of diffuse sheets of polygonal cells with bizarre nuclear atypia and deeply eosinophilic cytoplasm.
