In accordance with World Health Organization guidelines, the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports designed a national plan to minimize effects of pandemic influenza. Within the scope of the Dutch pandemic preparedness plan, we were asked to estimate the magnitude of the problem in terms of the number of hospitalizations and deaths during an influenza pandemic. Using scenario analysis, we also examined the potential effects of intervention options. We describe and compare the scenarios developed to understand the potential impact of a pandemic (i.e., illness, hospitalizations, deaths), various interventions, and critical model parameters. Scenario analysis is a helpful tool for making policy decisions about the design and planning of outbreak control management on a national, regional, or local level.

A vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology enables bidirectional power exchange between electric vehicles (EVs) and the power grid, presenting enhanced grid stability and load management opportunities. This study investigates a comprehensive microgrid system integrating EVs with solar (8 MW), wind (4.5 MW), and diesel generation sources, focusing on peak load reduction and frequency regulation capabilities.

Rolling bearings of the vibration exciter are prone to failure due to long-term high amplitude alternating impact loads, causing economic losses and threatening production safety. The heavy environmental noise during the operation of the vibration exciter and the high vibration level generated by the eccentric block make the weak bearing fault features submerged and difficult to extract. Teager-Kaiser energy operator is a popular method for extracting bearing fault features.

This study is the application of a recurrent neural networks with Bayesian regularization optimizer (RNNs-BRO) to analyze the effect of various physical parameters on fluid velocity, temperature, and mass concentration profiles in the Darcy-Forchheimer flow of propylene glycol mixed with carbon nanotubes model across a stretched cylinder. This model has significant applications in thermal systems such as in heat exchangers, chemical processing, and medical cooling devices. The data-set of the proposed model has been generated with variation of various parameters such as, curvature parameter, inertia coefficient, Hartmann number, porosity parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number, radiation parameter, activation energy variable, Schmidt number and reaction rate parameter for different scenarios.

Reward cues have long been considered to enhance creative performance; however, little is known about whether rewards can affect creative problem solving by manipulating states of flexibility and persistence. This study sought to elucidate the differential impacts of real versus hypothetical rewards on the creative process utilizing the Chinese compound remote association task. Behavioral analysis revealed a significantly enhanced solution rate and response times in scenarios involving real rewards, in contrast to those observed with hypothetical rewards.

Objective: The objective of this study was to understand the resident perspective on what makes an excellent surgical educator and to identify gaps in a single-institution-developed "Residents as Teachers" curriculum (RaTC) following the completion of the RaTC by residents at the institution.

Design: A longitudinal 8-hour RaTC was developed and administered in 1-hour sessions over 2 years. Content included interactive clinical and technical skills teaching, feedback, evaluation and assessment, and interpersonal skills.
