The Second Scientific Fibre Reinforcement Symposium was held in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, on October 13th, 2001. The participants were invited speakers with extensive scientific and clinical backgrounds in glass fiber and polyethylene fiber research. The symposium reports focused on four areas of fiber reinforcement research: materials development, laboratory testing, clinical systems development, and clinical data. The consensus reached on the current status and future directions of this technology is reported here.

This report examines the evolving role of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination in Japan, especially in light of the reduced public concern following the reclassification of COVID-19 as a Category 5 infectious disease in May 2023. With over half the population estimated to have hybrid immunity from prior infections and vaccinations, this report evaluated the necessity and frequency of additional booster doses. Despite strong recommendations from Japanese medical societies to continue vaccination, public skepticism remains owing to financial burdens, adverse reactions, and the perceived limited benefits of frequent boosters.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), characterized by reproductive failures in breeding pigs and respiratory diseases in growing pigs, is a widespread and challenging disease. The agent, PRRSV, is a single-strand RNA virus that is undergoing continuous mutation and evolution, resulting in the global spread of multiple strains with different genetic characteristics and variable antigens. There are currently no effective measures to eradicate PRRS, and vaccination is crucial for controlling the disease.
