To investigate the plasma and RBC concentrations of folic acid in normal persons. Microbiological assay was used to determine the plasma and RBC folic acid in 59 normal persons by using of 96-well microtiter plasma. The results showed that the plasma and RBC folio acid concentration were (8.2 +/- 2.9) microgram/L and (337.5 +/- 91.0) microgram/L in male and female normal persons (aged 18 to 32) respectively. The coefficient Variations determined within assay and between assay were 2.2% and 4.7% respectively. This method may reduce reagent costs, shortened the assay time, increase the sensitivity and improve the reproducibility. It can be used for large scale survey.

Skull base osteoradionecrosis (sbORN) is a severe complication of radiotherapy (RT) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) that can severely affect quality of life (QOL) and may even be life-threatening. The etiology and pathogenesis of sbORN remain largely unknown or uncertain. Therefore, this study aimed to identify potential risk factors for sbORN by analyzing the laboratory assessments of patients to enable early clinical interventions.

The arginine/nitric oxide (NO) pathway regulates both systems through its effects on erythropoiesis and vasodilation. In Tibetan populations native to high-altitude hypoxia, increased NO production from arginine and decreased arginine metabolism by arginase contribute to these adaptive mechanisms.

Background: Coagulopathy and inflammatory response are the intractable complication during Sun's procedure for type A aortic dissection (AAD). This study aims to investigate the efficacy of autologous platelet rich plasma (aPRP) on the patients undergoing Sun's procedure under moderate hypothermia.
Methods: A total of 372 AAD patients who underwent Sun's procedure under moderate hypothermia were divided into aPRP group (aPRP was separated before heparinization and transfused after protamine neutralization) and Non-aPRP group (without aPRP apheresis).

Sickle cell disease encompasses a variety of inherited red blood cell (RBC) disorders characterized by abnormal thrombosis, microvascular occlusion, end-organ ischemia, and early mortality. Understanding how sickle RBCs drive abnormal blood flow and stress on the endothelial wall is essential to predict and prevent blockages in blood circulation. While there are studies comparing blood flow velocity and pressure via computational fluid dynamics simulations, there are still open questions about how sickle cells interact with plasma in a complex capillary network.
