Arthroscopic debridement represents one option for treatment of the patient with degenerative arthritis of the knee. Numerous procedures, including joint lavage, removal of loose bodies, partial meniscectomy, and techniques to stimulate cartilage repair may be included under this topic. Understanding surgical indications and clinical results requires differentiation of these individual components where possible. Furthermore, it is important to note that degenerative changes present along a spectrum of involvement. However, despite patient heterogeneity, selective application of conservative debridement, partial meniscectomy and removal of mechanical irritants will result in improved midterm follow-up results in approximately two thirds of patients. Patient expectations are crucial, and the temporizing nature of the procedure must be understood.

Ethnopharmacological Relevancy: Danggui Niantong Decoction (DGNTD) is a traditional Chinese medicine compound formula that has been demonstrated to possess efficacy in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA), as well as for dispelling moisture and relieving pain. As mentioned before, DGNTD is essential for synovial inflammation in RA. The primary features of the OA synovial membrane are low-grade inflammation, hyperplasia with enhanced fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) proliferation, and fibrosis, which can cause pain and stiffness.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that lateral meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) through medial arthrotomy showed less extrusion than that of the lateral arthrotomy. However, there is a paucity of literature reporting clinical and radiological outcomes after lateral MAT through the medial arthrotomy.

Hypothesis: Lateral MAT through a medial arthrotomy would show significantly improved clinical scores and minimal joint space narrowing compared with preoperative status.
