Dimeric vancomycin analogues based on a lead compound identified from a library of synthetic analogues of vancomycin have up to 60-fold greater activity than vancomycin against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE, VanA phenotype). Simplified analogues have also been prepared and found to maintain activity against VRE and have broad-spectrum antibiotic activity.

Unlabelled: Zoonotic viruses are an omnipresent threat to global health. Influenza A virus (IAV) transmits between birds, livestock, and humans. Proviral host factors involved in the cross-species interface are well known.

The long-term stability of many gut microbiome strains within the microbiome suggests the existence of strain-specific strategies that have evolved to foster resilience to such insults. Despite this, little is known about the mechanisms that mediate this resistance.

As a multifunctional protein with a key role in RNA metabolism, deregulation of its functions has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases, tumour aggressiveness and chemoresistance, which has fuelled efforts to develop novel therapeutics that modulates its RNA binding activities. Here, using a combination of Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations and graph neural network pockets predictions, we showed that hnRNPA1 N-terminal RNA binding domain (UP1) contains several cryptic pockets capable of binding small molecules.

However, susceptibility to β-lactam antibiotics is continually eroded by resistance mechanisms. Emerging multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains possessing altered alleles (encoding PBP2) pose a global health emergency as they threaten the utility of ceftriaxone, the last remaining outpatient antibiotic.

Candida lusitaniae is one of the fungal species which causes serious health illnesses including peritonitis, vaginitis and fungemia, among others. Several antifungal drugs have been designed to tackle its infections but their efficacy is still questionable due to their associated side effects. Hence, there is a need to design those drugs which possess comparatively higher degree of therapeutic potential.
