The purpose of this study was to assess the influences of surgical approaches and tourniquet application on the lateral retinacular tension (LRT). Single-setting bilateral total knee arthroplasty was performed in 10 patients, and the medial parapatellar and midvastus approaches were randomly performed on each knee using tourniquet application. The LRT was measured using the buckle transducer before and after each approach. Next, the tourniquet was deflated and the measurement was repeated. After the parapatellar approach, LRT was significantly decreased. Conversely, no significant change was seen after the midvastus approach with the tourniquet inflated. However, in the midvastus approach, LRT was significantly decreased after tourniquet deflation. We concluded that both the parapatellar and midvastus approaches influence patellar tracking and LRT.

Objective: This study aims to elucidate the impact of varying tourniquet application timings on postoperative pain and the bone cement interface following TKA.
Method: Patients who underwent TKA in our department between March 2021 and July 2023 were included in this study. They were randomly assigned to three groups: Group 1 used tourniquets throughout the operation, Group 2 applied tourniquets before the osteotomy, and Group 3 applied tourniquets after completing the osteotomy.
South Dakota's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) volunteer participation is declining, and projected to further decrease over the next decade. To minimize this deficit, South Dakota's Department of Health recommends that rural firefighters assist EMS in high-acuity calls to decrease the burden on EMS personnel in an effort to improve volunteer retention. Bridging the Gap from Rural Trauma to Rural Healthcare aimed to create educational training opportunities for firefighters when assisting EMS.

The objective was to study the risk factors of venous thrombosis after ankle fracture with type 2 diabetes mellitus surgery using a tourniquet and to assess the effect of ischemic preconditioning and metformin combination therapy in preventing thrombosis. One hundred eighty patients with ankle fractures combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with lower extremity tourniquet surgery between January 2020 and December 2023 were analyzed.
