Primary dorsal localization of invertebrate hydatidosis.

Divisione Malattie Infettive, Ospedale Civile di Treviso, Italy.

Published: January 1999

We describe patient with Echinococcus granulosus disease primary localized on the back. This case is uncommon because of the lack of risk exposure history and the sole muscular localization. The patient received several surgical operations on the back, without eradication of the infestation. At the end we discuss the clinical considerations that induced the choice of the usual medical therapy

Differential Neuronal Activation of Nociceptive Pathways in Neuropathic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury.

Cell Mol Neurobiol

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Tongji Medical College, Tongji Hospital, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430030, China.

Neuropathic pain, a prevalent complication following spinal cord injury (SCI), severely impairs the life quality of patients. No ideal treatment exists due to incomplete knowledge on underlying neural processes. To explore the SCI-induced effect on nociceptive circuits, the protein expression of c-Fos was analyzed as an indicator of neuronal activation in a rat contusion model exhibiting below-level pain.

Closed Preservation Rhinoplasty in the Mestizo Patient: Challenges and Techniques for Nasal Tip Support.

Aesthet Surg J

January 2025

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, Maltepe University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Background: Closed preservation rhinoplasty continues to grow in popularity. Nevertheless, many surgeons remain wary of doing closed preservation rhinoplasty in certain patient populations. Mestizo noses have a thick soft-tissue envelope and weak nasal tip support.

Cortical thickness analyses have provided valuable insights into changes in cortical brain structure after stroke and their association with recovery. Across studies though, relationships between cortical structure and function show inconsistent results. Recent developments in diffusion-weighted imaging of the cortex have paved the way to uncover hidden aspects of stroke-related alterations in cortical microstructure, going beyond cortical thickness as a surrogate for cortical macrostructure.

Purpose: To compare the erectile and urinary functions of ventral and dorsal onlay buccal mucosal graft (BMG) urethroplasty in the management of proximal bulbar urethral strictures (PBUS) in sexually active men.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively included patients with primary non-traumatic PBUS who were treated with (BMG) urethroplasty at our department between March 2019 and March 2023 either ventral or dorsal approaches. Patients were assessed at 3- and 12-months postoperatively for urinary and erectile functions.

Lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI) is an endogenous signaling molecule for the GPR55 receptor. Previous studies have shown that arachidonoyl-lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI-20:4) produced an increase in the inflammatory mediators NLPR3 (inflammasome - 3 marker) and IL-1b in neurons from both rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and hippocampal cultures. Because LPI is comprised of a family of lipid structures that vary in fatty acyl composition, the current work examined neuroinflammatory responses to various LPI structures in DRG and hippocampal cultures as assessed by high content fluorescent imaging.
