Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) is a serum complement factor playing a dominant role in first-line defense. When MBL binds to specific sugar moieties on microorganisms, the lectin complement pathway (LCP) is activated. Changes in the mbl gene and promotor may result in MBL with less activity, predisposing the individual to recurrent infections. Using a functional MBL assay, we investigated at what concentration different microbes activated MBL. Less than 1 colony-forming unit (CFU) of Neisseria meningitidis groups B and C still activated MBL, which may be ascribed to filterable blebs. Nocardia farcinica and Legionella pneumophila activated MBL well, which raises new questions about host susceptibility. In contrast to other research, Pseudomonas aeruginosa activated the LCP potently.

Methods: This retrospective study included 96 PI patients admitted between January 2023 and February 2024. Patients were divided into a control group (n = 46) treated with MINO and a research group (n = 50) treated with TNZ plus MINO.

Oncolytic virotherapy has shown great promise in mediating targeted tumor destruction through tumor-selective replication and induction of anti-tumor immunity; however, obstacles remain for virus candidates to reach the clinic. These include avoiding neutralizing antibodies, preventing stimulation of the adaptive immune response during intravenous administration, and inducing sufficient apoptosis and immune activation so that the body's defense can work to eradicate systemic disease. We have developed a co-formulation of oncolytic viruses (OVs) with Imagent lipid-encapsulated, perfluorocarbon microbubbles (MBs) to protect the OVs from the innate and adaptive immune system.
