An 11-year-old prepubertal girl with a history of metabolically poorly controlled type 1 diabetes for six years was diagnosed with diabetic nephropathy based on persistent overt proteinuria, hypertension, and renal biopsy findings typical of diabetic nephropathy. This case illustrates that diabetic nephropathy can develop even before puberty when metabolic control of the disease is not sufficient.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a prevalent autoimmune condition worldwide resulting from the loss of tolerance against self-antigens. The constitutional symptoms of SLE are well-known, including fatigue, fever, myalgia, weight loss, arthralgia, arthritis, malar rash, and photosensitivity. These symptoms often overshadow the impacts SLE can have on all body systems, with the renal system frequently impacted.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of curcumin nanocrystals (Cur-NCs) on ferroptosis in high-glucose (HG)-induced HK-2 cells and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy model (DN) rats. The purpose is to determine whether Cur NCs can become a promising treatment option for diabetes nephropathy by reducing ferroptosis.
Methods: Cur-NCs were prepared using microfluidic technology and studied using dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy.

Background: Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease and contributes to 38% of kidney failure requiring dialysis. A gap in detection and management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) exists in primary care. Community pharmacists are positioned to support those not able to access kidney care through traditional pathways.

Background: Prior studies on the link between socioeconomic status (SES) and diabetic microvascular complications have been inconclusive. This study aimed to explore whether SES is associated with the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR), nephropathy (DN) and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) using large prospective cohort.
Methods: SES was evaluated using education attainment (individual level), household income (household level), and Townsend deprivation index (TDI, neighborhood level).

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a serious complication of diabetes, and inflammation plays a crucial role. Sirtuin 2 (SIRT2), a NAD+-dependent deacetylase, which is involved in the regulation of cell metabolism, proliferation and longevity through deacetylation. Our previous research showed a positive correlation between urinary SIRT2 levels and renal injury markers in DN patients.
