Re-determination of R(C/C) for Vienna Peedee belemnite (VPDB).

Rapid Commun Mass Spectrom

January 2024

Centre for Isotope Research (CIO), University of Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands.

Rationale: The isotope ratio for the internationally agreed but virtual zero-point of the carbon isotope-delta scale, Vienna Peedee belemnite (VPDB), plays a critical role in linking carbon isotope delta values to the SI. It is also a quantity used for various data processing procedures including 'O correction', clumped isotope analysis and conversion of carbon isotope delta values into other expressions of isotopic composition. A value for R(C/C) with small uncertainty is therefore desirable to facilitate these procedures.

Virtual staining streamlines traditional staining procedures by digitally generating stained images from unstained or differently stained images. While conventional staining methods involve time-consuming chemical processes, virtual staining offers an efficient and low infrastructure alternative. Leveraging microscopy-based techniques, such as confocal microscopy, researchers can expedite tissue analysis without the need for physical sectioning.

Reduced iodine loads for computed tomography (CT)-based vascular assessment prior to transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) may be feasible in conjunction with a spectral detector CT scanner. This prospective single-center study considered 100 consecutive patients clinically referred for pre-TAVI CT. They were examined on a dual-layer detector CT scanner to obtain an ECG-gated cardiac scan and a non-ECG-gated aortoiliofemoral scan.

Quantifying canopy light interception provides insight into the effects of plant spacing, canopy structure, and leaf orientation on radiation distribution. This is essential for increasing crop yield and improving product quality. Canopy light interception can be quantified using 3-dimensional (3D) plant models and optical simulations.

Objective: Millions of cancer survivors are at risk for cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI), yet accurate and accessible assessments of cognitive functioning remain limited. Ecological mobile cognitive testing (EMCT) could offer a solution. This paper presents the protocol for a study that aims to (1) establish the reliability and validity of EMCT to assess CRCI in breast cancer survivors, and (2) prospectively evaluate within-person processes (and interactions) among context, mood, and behavior that explain cognitive variability, everyday functioning, and quality of life of cancer survivors.
