We generated mice lacking Cks2, one of two mammalian homologs of the yeast Cdk1-binding proteins, Suc1 and Cks1, and found them to be viable but sterile in both sexes. Sterility is due to failure of both male and female germ cells to progress past the first meiotic metaphase. The chromosomal events up through the end of prophase I are normal in both CKS2-/- males and females, suggesting that the phenotype is due directly to failure to enter anaphase and not a consequence of a checkpoint-mediated metaphase I arrest.

Background: Single-cell sequencing technology provides the capability to analyze changes in specific cell types during the progression of disease. However, previous single-cell sequencing studies on gastric cancer (GC) have largely focused on immune cells and stromal cells, and further elucidation is required regarding the alterations that occur in gastric epithelial cells during the development of GC.
Aim: To create a GC prediction model based on single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing (bulk RNA-seq) data.

Long-term hematopoietic stem cells are rare, highly quiescent stem cells of the hematopoietic system with life-long self-renewal potential and the ability to transplant and reconstitute the entire hematopoietic system of conditioned recipients. Most of our understanding of these rare cells has relied on cell surface identification, epigenetic, and transcriptomic analyses. Our knowledge of protein synthesis, folding, modification, and degradation-broadly termed protein homeostasis or "proteostasis"-in these cells is still in its infancy, with very little known about how the functional state of the proteome is maintained in hematopoietic stem cells.

Elevated polyamine levels are required for tumor transformation and development; however, expression patterns of polyamines and their diagnostic potential have not been investigated in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), and its impact on prognosis has yet to be determined. A total of 440 OSCC samples and clinical data were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Consensus clustering was conducted to classify OSCC patients into two subgroups based on the expression of the 17 polyamine regulators.

The kidney is a complex organ composed of more than 30 terminally differentiated cell types that all are required to perform its numerous homeostatic functions. Defects in kidney development are a significant cause of chronic kidney disease in children, which can lead to kidney failure that can only be treated by transplant or dialysis. A better understanding of molecular mechanisms that drive kidney development is important for designing strategies to enhance renal repair and regeneration.

The cornea is the clear window that lets light into the eye. It is composed of five layers: epithelium, Bowman's layer, stroma, Descemet's membrane and endothelium. The maintenance of its structure and transparency are determined by the functions of the different cell types populating each layer.
