Published: May 2003

Conservative treatment of meatacarpale fracture is recommended if there are no joint displacement, rotation failures, displacement over 30 degrees ad axim and shortening over 5 mm. Operative procedures should be done in open fractures and serial of fractures of metacarpale bones. Early functionally treatment should be done in stable, not displaced fractures. Cast can be used only for a short time in full extended position of fingers and flexion in metacarpo-phalangeal joint in 60-90 degrees. Twin-tapes after reduction of edema allowed free range of motion by fixed rotation. Closed reduction of displaced fractures of fifth metacarpal bone (boxer's fracture) isn't successful. Cases with displacement over 30 degrees may be operatively treated by intramedullary stabilization.

Background: Proclination of front teeth in orthodontics and oral rehabilitation may influence lip protrusion and the overall facial profile. We hypothesized that the degree of profile changes is determined by the biomechanical properties of the lips.

Objectives: (1) to investigate the upper lip changes induced by a simulated protraction of upper front teeth; and (2) to assess the relationship between biomechanical properties of the lips and their response to tooth protraction.

Unveiling the Distinctions: Computer Versus Sport-Specific Neurocognitive Tests.

J Sport Rehabil

January 2025

Exercise Science and Neuroscience Unit, Department of Exercise & Health, Paderborn University, Paderborn, Germany.

Context: Traditional assessments of high-order neurocognitive functions are conducted using pen and paper or computer-based tests; this neglects the complex motor actions athletes have to make in team ball sports. Previous research has not explored the combination of neurocognitive functions and motor demands through complex tasks for team ball sport athletes. The primary aim of the present study was to determine the construct validity of agility-based neurocognitive tests of working memory (WM) and inhibition.

Background: To analyze the effects of the positioning of a bolt in the femoral neck system (FNS) on the short-term outcomes of middle-aged and young adults with displaced femoral neck fractures (FNFs).

Methods: This was a retrospective study involving 114 middle-aged and young adults with displaced FNFs who were surgically treated with internal fixation via the FNS in the Department of Orthopedics, Suzhou Municipal Hospital, from December 2019 to January 2023. The degree of deviation of the central axis of the femoral head and neck from the tip of the bolt (W), the tip‒apex distance (TAD) and the length of femoral neck shortening (LFNS) were measured on postoperative X-ray and computed tomography (CT) scan images.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the effect of adding "rapid decelerations" and "vibrations" during a SemontPLUS maneuver on the dynamics of the inner ear and the success rate of canalolithiasis repositioning.

Methods: We used a previously described upscaled (5×) in vitro model of the posterior semicircular canal of the inner ear to analyze the trajectory of a single and clumped surrogate otolith particle (metallic sphere) during a SemontPLUS maneuver (-60 degrees below earth horizontal) on a repositioning chair (TRV). We compared the angular displacement of these particles with and without the application of "vibrations" or "rapid decelerations" using TRV.

In order to determine the influence of different factors on the CO huff-and-puff displacement effect, a CO huff-and-puff experiment was carried out with Chang 6 tight sandstone samples in Ordos Basin as the research object. Combined with nuclear magnetic resonance technology, the influences of injection pressure, cycle numbers and soaking time on the CO huff-and-puff effect were evaluated, and the optimal CO huff-and-puff parameters were optimized. The microscopic degree of crude oil production in different scale pores was quantitatively characterized.
