48-year-old left-handed man experienced a sudden loss of taste, followed by dysarthria and dysphagia. Taste threshold examined by a small filter-paper disc method was severely elevated on both sides of the tongue. Brain CT revealed right putaminal hemorrhage that measured 9.3 ml in volume. In addition, brain MRI showed multiple cerebral infarcts bilaterally in the basal ganglia, and the corona radiata, and on the right side of the middle pontine tegmentum. His dysarthria and dysphagia seemed to be caused by interruption of bilateral cortico-bulbar tracts, and resolved within two weeks when edema around the hemorrhage regressed. The gustatory disturbance that persisted may be caused by the interruption of central gustatory pathways at the pons on one side, and subcortically close to the insular cortex on the other side.

: This study aimed to determine the positive predictive value of our NMD Suspicion Criteria in the diagnosis of NMDs. Other clinical factors routinely examined in our voice and swallowing examinations were also investigated to see if they had a significant association with the diagnosis of NMDs. : This study retrospectively investigated the medical charts of patients who visited our Voice and Swallowing outpatient clinic between 2013 and 2022.

Background And Purpose: This study evaluated the diagnostic utility of an anti-signal-recognition particle 54 (anti-SRP54) antibody-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) as well as the clinical, serological, and pathological characteristics of patients with SRP immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM).
Methods: We evaluated 87 patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy and 107 healthy participants between January 2002 and December 2023. The sensitivity and specificity of the ELISA for anti-SRP54 antibodies were assessed, and the clinical profiles of patients with anti-SRP54 antibodies were determined.

This is a case report of a rare hypoglossal nerve paresis after tonsillectomy in a healthy 29-year-old woman. While she made a full recovery, she experienced 6-8 weeks of dysphagia, dysarthria and had to be readmitted because of dehydration. As direct intraoperative trauma is unlikely due to the protected course of the nerve, we discuss possible mechanisms and suggest precautions to avoid similar neuropraxia - such as avoiding overinflation of the laryngeal mask airway, regularly relieving the tongue pressure and using careful manipulation of the tongue base if necessary.

Introduction: Dysphagia is a common post-stroke neurological disorder. Early screening for dysphagia can identify patients at risk of aspiration, thereby reducing the occurrence of pulmonary complications, morbidity, and mortality in this population.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the impact of an intervention in a stroke unit, following a retrospective study carried out in the same unit in 2020, which investigated the association between dysphagia and acute cerebrovascular disease and analyzed the prevalence of readmissions due to respiratory tract infections (RTI) and mortality.
