Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of docetaxel in combination with carboplatin as salvage treatment in women with metastatic breast cancer (MBC).
Patients And Methods: Chemotherapy-pretreated women with MBC were treated with docetaxel 75 mg/m(2) as 1-hour i.v. infusion followed by carboplatin AUC 6 mg/ml.min, using the Calvert's formula, as 30-min i.v. infusion. Cycles were repeated on an outpatient basis every 3 weeks.
Results: Thirty-six patients received a total of 210 chemotherapy cycles (median 6 cycles/patient). All but one patient had previously received anthracyclines for the treatment of metastatic disease and half of the patients had failed to respond to front-line treatment. Twenty-eight (78%) patients had visceral disease. On an intention-to-treat analysis there were three (8%) complete and 19 (53%) partial responses for an overall response rate of 61% (95% CI: 45.2-77.0%). The response rate was 44% (2 CRs, 6 PRs) among 18 patients who had progressive or stable disease as best response to front-line treatment. The median duration of response was 8 months, the median time to tumor progression 10 months, and the probability of 1-year survival 66%. Grade 3-4 neutropenia was the main hematologic toxicity occurring in 16 (45%) patients or 36 (17%) cycles. Seven (19%) patients developed 8 (4%) febrile neutropenic episodes. Grade 3 thrombocytopenia occurred in 4 (11%) patients or 6 (3%) cycles. Non-hematologic toxicity was generally mild. G-CSF was used in 19 (53%) patients or 134 (64%) cycles. There was one sudden death possibly related to the treatment.
Conclusion: The docetaxel-carboplatin combination is an active outpatient salvage regimen for the treatment of women with MBC relapsing or not responding to anthracycline-based front-line therapy.

Background: Fracture nonunion represents a challenging complication during fracture repair, often necessitating surgical intervention. Teriparatide, a recombinant human parathyroid hormone, has demonstrated promise in enhancing fracture healing, although its efficacy in treating established nonunion remains under investigation.
Case Summary: We report a case of a 27-year-old male who presented with a right humerus fracture following a traffic accident.

Background: The treatment of relapsed/refractory T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (R/R T-ALL) is a significant challenge in hematologic oncology, and no standard salvage treatment plan exists. Both Chinese and international clinical guidelines recommend combination chemotherapy including venetoclax.
Methods: Efficacy and safety of venetoclax, azacitidine, homoharringtonine, cytarabine, and aclarubicin (VA-HAA) combination therapy were retrospectively analyzed in 3 patients with R/R T-ALL at the Department of Hematology, 920th Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force, Chinese People's Liberation Army.

Background: Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) has a high risk of poor outcomes. We aimed to compare the outcomes of lower extremity revascularization in patients with CLTI stratified by CKD severity in patients enrolled in the prospective, randomized Best Endovascular vs Best Surgical Therapy in Patients with CLTI (BEST-CLI) trial.
Methods: The BEST-CLI trial dataset was queried to categorize patients into three groups according to CKD stage.

: Distal femur tumor resection with limb salvage is a demanding procedure that offers hope for patients by preserving the limb rather than opting for amputation. While limb salvage can improve both physical function and psychological well-being, there's limited knowledge on how active patients remain afterward and how their Quality of Life (QoL) is affected, especially regarding physical activities and sports. This study investigates the quality of life of the patients through the development of motor activity, focusing on both physical and sporting activity of the above-mentioned individuals and their physical abilities to participate in activities of daily and sporting life after surgery.

The outcome of refractory/relapsed systemic Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (R/R-sALCL), especially for anaplastic lymphoma kinase-1 (ALK-1)-negative disease, remains dismal even after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT). The intensification of both salvage and conditioning regimens, without increasing the toxicity, could improve the outcome of AHSCT in R/R-sALCL. Based on the successful experience of the incorporation of antiD20 monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of B-Cell Lymphomas, we designed a salvage and conditioning regimen incorporating the antiCD30-conjugated antibody (Brentuximab Vedotin, BV) to standard chemotherapy regimens, and we describe herein the clinical course of a patient with AKL-ve, R/R-sALCL, who received salvage regimen BV + DHAP, followed by AHSCT with preparative regimen consisted of BV plus standard BEAM.
