Kinetics of photolysis of the antibiotic tetracycline (TC) during irradiation at 365 nm was studied in three buffer solutions usually used for studies on TC binding to its main cell targets--a transcriptional repressor protein TetR and to the ribosome. These buffer solutions contain magnesium ions and an antioxidant--mercaptoethanol or dithiothreitol. The rate of TC photolysis was maximal in medium which contained 14 mM mercaptoethanol and 5 mM magnesium ions. In the absence of mercaptoethanol the photolysis rate was more than twofold decreased. The rate constants and quantum yields of the photolysis were determined under various conditions.

Inclusion complexation of the sunscreen ingredient avobenzone (AVB) with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was investigated to improve its aqueous solubility and photostability; another ultraviolet (UV) filter, oxybenzone (OXB), and the phytochemical antioxidant curcumin (CUR) served as a comparison. In this study, the 1-octanol/water partition coefficients, acid dissociation constants, phase-solubility diagrams with β-CD, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectral changes induced by UVA1 (365 nm) irradiation were evaluated. β-CD at concentrations 50-100 times that of AVB most effectively protected the photostability of AVB.

A series of flexible polyacrylonitrile/TiO (PAN/P25) multi-porous nanotubular membranes were successfully constructed by facile electrospinning combined with an ethylene glycol solvothermal induce strategy. The effects of P25 dosage and solvothermal time on the morphology of samples were systematically investigated, which were characterized in terms of surface morphology, microstructure, specific surface area, thermal analysis, wettability, photoelectrochemical and fluorescence spectra. Rhodamine B (RhB) and () were employed as simulated pollutants to evaluate photocatalytic degradation and antibacterial properties of the PAN/P25-3 multi-porous nanotubular membrane.

In this study, a polymer gel electrolyte based on polyacrylonitrile was synthesized with varying polymer-to-liquid-electrolyte ratios. DSSCs incorporating a 1:3 ratio showed optimum PV parameters. Choosing this proportion, the effect of incorporating the photoresponsive AZO dye into this polymer electrolyte was studied.

Background: Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is the most challenging corneal infection to treat, with conventional therapies often proving ineffective. While photoactivated chromophore for keratitis-corneal cross-linking (PACK-CXL) with riboflavin/UV-A has shown success in treating bacterial and fungal keratitis, and PACK-CXL with rose bengal/green light has demonstrated promise in fungal keratitis, neither approach has been shown to effectively eradicate AK. This case study explores a novel combined same-session treatment approach using both riboflavin/UV-A and rose bengal/green light in a single procedure.

Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery, Institute of Oncology, İstanbul University, İstanbul, Turkiye.

Background/aim: To investigate the possible morbidities associated with the implantation of a totally implantable venous access device (TIVAD) in breast cancer (BC) patients.

Materials And Methods: Clinical data and developed complications in 546 BC patients with TIVAD between 2017 and 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. Among these, 524 (96%) patients who underwent TIVAD implantation via the right subclavian vein (SCV) route were examined separately.
