This study discusses non-steady effects encountered in peristaltic flows in oesophagus. The purpose of this communication is to evolve a mechanism to diagnose tumor in an oesophagus mathematically. The tumor is modelled by generic bump function of certain height and width.

Chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST)-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) often takes prolonged saturation duration (Ts) and relaxation delay (Td) to reach the steady state, and yet the insufficiently long Ts and Td in actual experiments may underestimate the CEST measurement. In this study, we aimed to develop a deep learning-based model for quasi-steady-state (QUASS) prediction from non-steady-state CEST acquired in experiments, therefore overcoming the limitation of the CEST effect which needs prolonged saturation time to reach a steady state. To support network training, a multi-pool Bloch-McConnell equation was designed to derive wide-ranging simulated Z-spectra, so as to solve the problem of time and labor consumption in manual annotation work.

A non-steady state mathematical model of an amino acid (phenylalanine (Phe)) and mineral salt (NaCl) solution separation by neutralization dialysis (ND) carried out in a batch mode is proposed. The model takes into account the characteristics of membranes (thickness, ion-exchange capacity, and conductivity) and solutions (concentration, composition). As compared to previously developed models, the new one considers the local equilibrium of Phe protolysis reactions in solutions and membranes and the transport of all the phenylalanine forms (zwitterionic, positively and negatively charged) through membranes.

The insufficiently long RF saturation duration and relaxation delay in chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST)-MRI experiments may result in underestimation of CEST measurements. To maintain the CEST effect without prolonging the saturation duration and reach quasi-steady state (QUASS), a deep learning method was developed to reconstruct a QUASS CEST image pixel by pixel from non-steady-state CEST acquired in experiments. In this work, we established a tumor-bearing rat model on a 7 T horizontal bore small-animal MRI scanner, allowing ground-truth generation, after which a bidirectional long short-term memory network was formulated and trained on simulated CEST Z-spectra to reconstruct the QUASS CEST; finally, the ground truth yielded by experiments was used to evaluate the performance of the reconstruction model by comparing the estimates with the ground truth.

High amounts of mercury (Hg) can be released into the atmosphere from soil surfaces of legacy contaminated areas as gaseous elemental mercury (Hg). The alluvial plain of the Isonzo River (NE Italy) suffered widespread Hg contamination due to the re-distribution of Hg-enriched material discharged by historical cinnabar mining at the Idrija mine (Slovenia), but an assessment of Hg releases from the soils of this area is still lacking. In this work, Hg fluxes at the soil-air interface were evaluated using a non-steady state flux chamber coupled with a real-time Hg analyser at 6 sites within the Isonzo River plain.
