2-(p-Iodophenyl)-3(p-nitrophenyl)-5-phenyl tetrazolium chloride (INT) accepts electrons from dehydrogenase enzymes and is reduced to a red-colored formazan (INTF), which can be quantified by colorimetric analysis. Use of previously published methods for this technique was unsuccessful due to background chemical reactions from high levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals in the sediments. A modified method using acetonitrile extraction of the INTF was efficient and did not chemically reduce INT. This activity method is simple, quick, inexpensive and precise.

Hydroxysafflor yellow A attenuates the inflammatory response in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injured mice by regulating microglia polarization per SIRT1-mediated HMGB1/NF-κB signaling pathway.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2025

Department of Pharmacy, Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, Hefei, China; Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Decoction Pieces of New Manufacturing Technology, Bozhou 236000, China. Electronic address:

Background: Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), an active component isolated from Carthamus tinctorius L., has demonstrated potent protective effects against cerebral ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Microglial polarisation plays a crucial role in I/R.

Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive brain tumor malignancy in adults, accounting for nearly 50% of all gliomas. Current medications for GBM frequently lead to drug resistance.

Objectives: Umbelliferone (UMB) is found extensively in many plants and shows numerous pharmacological actions against inflammation, degenerative diseases and cancers.

The Ralstonia solanacearum Species Complex (RSSC) is the most significant plant pathogen group with a wide host range. It is genetically related but displays distinct biological features, such as restrictive geography occurrence. The RSSC comprises three species: Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum (phylotype I and III), Ralstonia solanacearum (phylotype IIA and IIB), and Ralstonia syzygii (phylotype IV) (Fegan and Prior 2005).

Protective mechanism of safflower yellow injection on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats by activating NLRP3 inflammasome.

BMC Complement Med Ther

January 2025

Institute of Basic Medical Sciences of Xiyuan Hospital, Beijing Key Laboratory of Chinese Materia Pharmacology, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, National Clinical Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Cardiovascular Diseases, Beijing, China.

Objectives: This study intended to explore whether the protective effect safflower yellow injection (SYI) on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats mediated of the NLRP3 inflammasome signaling.

Methods: The I/R model was prepared by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery for 45 min and then releasing the blood flow for 150 min. 96 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham group, I/R group, Hebeishuang group (HBS), SYI high-dose group (I/R + SYI-H), SYI medium-dose group (I/R + SYI-M) and SYI low-dose group (I/R + SYI-L).

Betaamyloid protein regulates miR15a and activates Bag5 to influence neuronal apoptosis in Alzheimers disease.

Zhong Nan Da Xue Xue Bao Yi Xue Ban

July 2024

Department of Neurology, Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha 410013, China.

Objectives: The prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is increasing globally, however its pathogenesis is still unclear. The evidence showed that the progression of AD was closely related to the apoptosis of nerve cells. This study amis to explore the role and specific mechanism of miR-15a and Bag5 in the apoptosis of nerve cells induced by beta-amyloid protein (Aβ) in AD.
