The Surface Evolver was used to calculate the equilibrium microstructure of random monodisperse soap froth, starting from Voronoi partitions of randomly packed spheres. The sphere packing has a strong influence on foam properties, such as E (surface free energy) and (average number of faces per cell). This means that random foams composed of equal-volume cells come in a range of structures with different topological and geometric properties. Annealing-subjecting relaxed foams to large-deformation, tension-compression cycles-provokes topological transitions that can further reduce E and . All of the foams have

This perspective begins with an overview of the major impact that the dendron, dendrimer, and dendritic state (DDDS) discovery has made on traditional polymer science. The entire DDDS technology is underpinned by an unprecedented new polymerization strategy referred to as step-growth, amplification-controlled polymerization (SGACP). This new SGACP paradigm allows for routine polymerization of common monomers and organic materials into precise monodispersed, dendritic macromolecules (i.

We report that fluorinated polyphenylene P50 undergoes folding-like sulfur fluorine annulative substitution (SFAS) to form a well-defined tubular helix H50. This is achieved with atomic precision in an exceptionally efficient manner, involving the simultaneous transformation of 98 C-F bonds with the yield per reaction site approaching 99.9 %.

Understanding of hard particles in morphologies and sizes on microstructures of particle random packings is of significance to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of many discrete media, such as granular materials, colloids, porous ceramics, active cells, and concrete. The majority of previous lines of research mainly dedicated microstructure analysis of convex particles, such as spheres, ellipsoids, spherocylinders, cylinders, and convex-polyhedra, whereas little is known about non-convex particles that are more close to practical discrete objects in nature. In this study, the non-convex morphology of a three-dimensional particle is devised by using a mathematical-controllable parameterized method, which contains two construction modes, namely, the uniformly distributed contraction centers and the randomly distributed contraction centers.

Article Synopsis
  • Miniature random lasers are important for fields like barcoding, bioimaging, and on-chip technologies, but creating size-tunable, biocompatible versions has been difficult.
  • This study used poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA), a medical-approved material, to create monodisperse dye-doped PLGA spheres with controllable sizes from 25 to 52 µm.
  • The spheres showed strong lasing emissions at wavelengths of 610-640 nm and a high quality factor of 3100, with detailed analysis providing insights into their structure.

Coacervation, the phase separation of liquid induced by polymeric solutes, sometimes results in the formation of oligomeric clusters of droplets. The morphology of the clusters is non-uniform because the clustering is a consequence of the random collisions of the drifting droplets. Here we report distinctively organized coacervation, yielding colloidal molecules with monodisperse size, morphological symmetry, and compositional heterogeneity.
