Articular malalignment and ulnocarpal impaction can progress to osteoarthritis in the wrist. This may be triggered by tears of the scapholunate ligament (rarely the lunotriquetral ligament) or the foveal lamina of the triangular fibrocartilage complex. In the pre-degenerative stages, radiographic findings are inconclusive, and symptoms may be absent or discrete.

Background: Sleep apnea, a common sleep disorder, has been associated with various health conditions, including arthritis. This study investigates the relationship between sleep apnea and arthritis, examining how demographic and clinical characteristics impact this association. There are several interrelations between sleep apnea and arthritis, one of which may be attributed to systemic inflammation and oxidative stress pathways commonly activated in both conditions.

Post-acute sequela of COVID-19 infection in individuals with multiple sclerosis.

Mult Scler

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

Background: Many common symptoms in post-acute sequelae following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection (PASC) overlap with those of multiple sclerosis (MS). We examined symptoms and performance of the PASC score, developed in the general population, in MS based on infection history.

Methods: We surveyed North American Research Committee on Multiple Sclerosis (NARCOMS) registry participants regarding infections and categorized participants based on infection history.

Predicting autoimmune thyroiditis in primary Sjogren's syndrome patients using a random forest classifier: a retrospective study.

Arthritis Res Ther

January 2025

Scientific Research Project Department, Guangdong Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Laboratory (Guangzhou), Pazhou Lab, Guangzhou, China.

Background: Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) and autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) share overlapping genetic and immunological profiles. This retrospective study evaluates the efficacy of machine learning algorithms, with a focus on the Random Forest Classifier, to predict the presence of thyroid-specific autoantibodies (TPOAb and TgAb) in pSS patients.

Methods: A total of 96 patients with pSS were included in the retrospective study.

Air pollution is strongly associated with autoimmune diseases (ADs), however, the genetic causality between them remains poorly understood. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the relationship between common air pollutants and ADs through Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. We conducted a MR study using aggregated data from publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS).
