Introduction: We present a comparative study (sensitivity and convergent validity) between a new verbal memory test Complutense Verbal Learning Test (TAVEC) and the Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised (WMSr) in a sample of patients with acquired brain injury.
Patients And Methods: Twenty-eight patients with acquired brain injury were included in this study. Twelve patients were reevaluated six months after their inclusion in a cognitive multidisciplinary rehabilitation program. All patients were assessed with the WMSr (verbal memory, general memory and long-term memory) and the TAVEC (verbal learning, immediate memory and delayed memory). Results obtained with both scales were compared (chi-square) and correlated (Pearson correlation).
Results: Globally, learning and memory deficits were detected with both scales. Initially 32.1 % of our sample showed general memory deficits, and 44.4 % long-term memory deficits when assessed with WMSr. These percentages were significantly lower compared to the 57.1 %, 75 % and 78.5 % of our sample who showed learning, recent memory and delayed memory difficulties when evaluated with the TAVEC. The results obtained by the 12 patients included in a cognitive rehabilitation program significantly improved. Numerous strong correlations between the TAVEC and the WMSr were found, suggesting a high degree of convergence between the two instruments.
Conclusions: The TAVEC is a sensitive measure of learning and memory after acquired brain injury. Due to its sensitivity, ecological value and multifactorial structure we recommend this test for the evaluation of learning and memory of these patients.

Weightlessness usually causes disruption of the gut microbiota and impairs cognitive function. There is a close connection between gut microbiota and neurological diseases. Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has a beneficial effect on reducing intestinal inflammation.

Executive function (EF) impairments are prevalent in survivors of neonatal critical illness such as children born very preterm (VPT) or with complex congenital heart disease (cCHD). This paper aimed to describe EF profiles in school-aged children born VPT or with cCHD and in typically developing peers, to identify child-specific and family-environmental factors associated with these profiles and to explore links to everyday-life outcomes. Data from eight EF tests assessing working memory, inhibition, cognitive flexibility, switching, and planning in = 529 children aged between 7 and 16 years was subjected into a latent profile analysis.

Pattern separation and pattern completion in the hippocampus play a critical role in episodic learning and memory. However, there is limited empirical evidence supporting the role of the hippocampal circuit in these processes during complex continuous experiences. In this study, we analyzed high-resolution fMRI data from the "Forrest Gump" open-access dataset (16 participants) using a sliding-window temporal autocorrelation approach to investigate whether the canonical hippocampal circuit (DG-CA3-CA1-SUB) shows evidence consistent with the occurrence of pattern separation or pattern completion during a naturalistic audio movie task.

Fear extinction is the foundation of exposure therapy for anxiety and phobias. However, the stability of extinction memory diminishes over time, coinciding with fear recovery. To augment long-term extinction retention, the temporal distribution of extinction learning sessions is critical.
