Investigation Performed at the University of Washington, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Seattle, WA, USA. Electronic address:
Background: While stress shielding and adaptive bone changes around the humeral component are often observed after shoulder arthroplasty, the potential causative factors and clinical significance of these findings at mid-term follow-up have not been well elucidated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency, patterns and clinical significance of radiographic findings around the humeral component of total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and hemiarthroplasty (HA) at minimum 4-year follow-up.
Methods: The 6-week and minimum 4-year radiographs of patients who underwent HA and TSA were evaluated for filling ratios, changes in the humeral bone surrounding the component, and component shift or subsidence.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the suitable surgical strategies for applying TaBw01 porous tantalum rod across different stages of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH).
Methods: TaBw01 tantalum rods were fabricated using type FTaY-1 tantalum powder via the foam impregnation-sintering method. Mechanical testing with the Instron 8801 universal testing machine and finite element analysis (FEA) assessed single tantalum rod implantation and impaction bone grafting combined with rod implantation.

Background: Periprosthetic femoral fractures (PFF) are a challenging complication of hip arthroplasty surgery, posing a high risk of morbidity, mortality and reoperation. The Vancouver Classification describes a B2 PFF around a loose stem with sufficient bone stock. In recent years, the number of B2 PFFs and cementation of femoral stems have increased substantially.

Objectives: To develop a reproducible, reliable clinical index of alveolar bone grafting (ABG) outcome based on the eruption position of the cleft canine tooth and determine the association between eruption position and radiographic outcome at 6 months post-grafting.
Methods: Children with complete, non-syndromic, unilateral/bilateral cleft lip and palate in the West of Scotland were identified. Post-ABG radiographic outcome (Kindelan index) and canine eruption position in children with a cleft of the alveolus who had undergone ABG were documented.

Purpose: Many treatment options are available for the revision of large acetabular defects. Debate continues as to which technique is most effective. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the rates of failure of acetabular bone defects Paprosky type III or American Academy of Orthopaedic types III-IV treated with morselized allograft in association with cemented cup or cementless cup or reinforcement devices.
