Background: Risk-versus-benefit optimization required a quantitative comparison of the two. The latter, directly related to effective diagnosis, can be associated to clinical risk. While many strategies have been developed to ascertain radiation risk, there has been a paucity of studies assessing clinical risk, thus limiting the optimization reach to achieve a minimum total risk to patients undergoing imaging examinations.

Objective: To collect voided urine from dogs with clinical signs of lower UTI and determine the diagnostic performance of a commercially available rapid immunoassay (RIA) immediately after urine collection and after refrigeration at 4 and 24 hours.
Animals: 40 client-owned dogs.
Methods: Aerobic urine culture was performed on urine collected by cystocentesis.

Objective: This study aims to establish an optimization procedure to define the cut-offs of quantitative assays for acetylcholine receptor antibody (AChRAb), evaluate their diagnostic performance in myasthenia gravis (MG), and explore the association with clinical features.
Methods: Samples from a representative cohort of 77 MG patients, 80 healthy controls (HC) and 80 other autoimmune diseases (OAD) patients were tested using competitive inhibition ELISA and RIA. Raw values (OD and cpm) and processed values (inhibition rate, binding rate and concentration) were used to define the cut-offs with statistical methods, a rough method, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

Objective: To determine the sensitivity (SN), specificity (SP), positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy of a point-of-care urine bacterial rapid immunoassay (RIA) for a diagnosis of septic peritonitis, compared to more traditional diagnostic tools, such as cytology and bacterial culture.
Design: Prospective, cross-sectional feasibility study conducted from October 2016 to June 2017.
Setting: Four locations within a private practice referral hospital.
