Objective: Limb edema and lymphedema due to chronic venous insufficiency or mastectomy and radiotherapy negatively effects patient well-being, lifestyle, tissue blood flow, oxygenation, and wound healing. Assessment of the efficacy of volume reduction therapy requires adequate estimation of progressive limb-segment volume changes, which are usually done manually with a tape measure. This study investigated the possibility that an optoelectronic automated method--a potentially less time-consuming and less operator-dependent method--might provide adequate limb volume assessment.
Design: A total of 184 manual and automated measurements of limb volume were made in 62 consecutive patients with limb edema of the legs (n = 142) and arms (n = 42).
Setting: Clinical center.
Results: Comparisons between automated and manual methods showed that inter-method volume estimates were highly correlated (4.14 +/- 0.54% for legs; 6.97 +/- 1.18% for arms). In patients with unilateral edema, the affected limb's percentage of edema was virtually identical when estimated by each method.
Conclusion: These findings show that the automated method of measuring limb volume is a useful alternative in suitable patients in clinical and research applications.

Aim: Vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) accelerates growth factor secretion, lymphatic endothelial cell migration toward the interstitial flow and lymphagiogenesis in a multidirectional pattern. Our observational study aimed to examine the hypothesis that nanofibrillar collagen scaffolds (NCS) combined with VLNT can provide guided lymphagiogenesis creating long-lasting lymphatic pathways.
Methods: Twenty-four patients (21 female, 3 male) underwent a lymphatic microsurgery for upper ( = 11) or lower ( = 13) limb secondary lymphedema and completed at least 18 months follow-up were selected and equally divided in 2 groups; Group-A underwent VLNT, Group-B underwent combined VLNT and NCS procedure.

Objective: To investigate the added value of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) NfH in secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) using contemporary immunoassays.
Objective: To determine the relationship between hoof surface (HS), hoof wall (HW), and lamellar tissue (LAM) temperature during distal limb cooling and evaluate 4 cooling methods in ambulatory horses over extended periods using HW to estimate LAM temperature.
Methods: 8 healthy, university-owned horses were enrolled. Temperature was measured over 4 hours at LAM, HS, and HW for 4 cooling methods: ice sleeve (SLEEVE), ice pack system (ICEPACK), low-volume ice water immersion (LV-IMMERSION), and high-volume ice water immersion (HV-IMMERSION).
