Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is characterized by impaired vascular endothelial function that may be improved by hydroxy-methylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase enzyme inhibition. Thus, using a parallel, double-blind, placebo-controlled design, this study evaluated the efficacy of 30-day atorvastatin administration (10 mg daily) on peripheral vascular function and biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress in 16 patients with HFpEF [Statin: = 8, 74 ± 6 yr, ejection fraction (EF) 52-73%; Placebo: = 8, 67 ± 9 yr, EF 56-72%]. Flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and sustained-stimulus FMD (SS-FMD) during handgrip (HG) exercise, reactive hyperemia (RH), and blood flow during HG exercise were evaluated to assess conduit vessel function, microvascular function, and exercising muscle blood flow, respectively.

The development of heart disease involves interconnected factors such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and vascular dysfunction. Andrographolide (AG), known for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, has the potential to counteract lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced endothelial dysfunction by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. Our research aimed to investigate the effects of AG on alleviating vascular endothelium dysfunction, oxidative stress, and inflammation in an experimental model induced by LPS.

Impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation in atherosclerosis is a high-risk factor for myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke, and inflammation, necroptosis and apoptosis contribute to endothelial dysfunction in atherosclerosis. Although DL-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) has been widely used in treating ischemic stroke, its effect on endothelium-dependent vasodilation remains unknown. This study aims to explore whether NBP is able to improve endothelium-dependent vasodilation in atherosclerosis and the underlying mechanisms.

Background: The incidental use of statins during radiation therapy has been associated with a reduced long-term risk of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. However, the mechanisms by which statins protect the vasculature from irradiation injury remain poorly understood.
Objectives: Identify the mechanisms by which the hydrophilic and lipophilic statins pravastatin and atorvastatin preserve endothelial function after irradiation.

Introduction: Endometriosis is associated with systemic inflammation and increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Endothelial dysfunction is one of the first manifestations of CVD but is unexplored in women with endometriosis. HMG-CoA-reductase inhibitors (statins) exert potent anti-inflammatory effects, and have been proposed as an adjunctive therapy in women with endometriosis.
