The reaction of 2-chlorophenol on Cu(II)O at 375 degrees C is studied using X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy. A mixture of copper(II) oxide and silica is prepared to serve as a surrogate for fly ash in combustion systems. 2-Chlorophenol is utilized as a model precursor for formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/F). The Cu K-edge spectra shiftto lower binding energy, reflecting the reduction of the copper. The substrate is found to form a mixture of Cu(II), Cu(I), and Cu(O), with the dominant species being Cu(I). The data are fitted well with a first-order reaction scheme, with a time constant at 375 degrees C of 76 s. This is the first application of XANES spectroscopy for studying the kinetics and mechanism of heterogeneous reactions relevant to combustion processes, and the results demonstrate the utility and desirability of such X-ray spectroscopic studies.

Palladium-catalyzed reactions between imidazo[1,2-]pyridine derivatives and 4-bromo-2,2-dialkyl-substituted 2-chromenes under microwave irradiation at 100 W, 120 °C for 20-30 min provided a series of new 3-(2,2-dialkyl-2-chromen-4-yl)-2-phenylimidazo[1,2-]pyridine derivatives in good to excellent yields. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed through spectroscopic techniques (NMR and HRMS). The X-ray single-crystal structure of compound 16e was also determined.

Four pairs of previously undescribed enantiomers, including two pairs of dimeric phthalide-benzophenanthridine alkaloid and two pairs phthalides derivatives, corydecumbenpines A-D, were isolated from the rhizomes of Corydalis decumbens. Their planar structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis including UV, IR, HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR. Optically pure compounds were obtained by chiral chromatography and their absolute configurations were determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography and comparison of experimental and calculated ECD spectra.

The degree of sulfonation (DS) is a key property of sulfonated polymers, as it significantly influences their swelling behaviour, conductivity and mechanical properties. Accurately determining the DS is essential for optimizing these materials for various applications. In this work, the DS of sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) was evaluated using a combination of analytical techniques, including titration, back titration, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Ultra-Violet (UV) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectroscopies, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Rutherford backscattering (RBS) and particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) analysis.

Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is primarily treated using imatinib mesylate, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) targeting the BCR::ABL1 oncoprotein. However, the development of drug resistance and adverse side effects necessitate the exploration of alternative therapeutic agents. This study presents the synthesis and characterization of a novel imatinib analogue, 3-chloro--(2-methyl-5-((4-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrimidin-2-yl)amino)phenyl)benzamide (PAPP1).

Two undescribed rearranged diterpenoids, lobopaucinoids A and B (1 and 2), along with thirteen undescribed lobane-type diterpenoids lobopaucinoids C-O (3-15) including a C (11) and two C (12 and 13) undescribed norditerpenoids, were isolated from the soft coral Lobophytum pauciflorum Ehrenberg (Sarcophytidae family) collected from Xisha Islands of the South China Sea. Additionally, two undescribed prenyleudesmane-type diterpenoids, lobopaucinoids P and Q (16 and 17), as well as two known lobane diterpenoids (18 and 19), were also obtained. Their structures were elucidated based on comprehensive spectroscopic data, Mosher's method, Mo(OAc) or Rh(OCOCF)-induced circular dichroism experiment, quantum chemical calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction and literature comparison.
