Hypertrophic scar (HS) is a common fibroproliferative disorders with no fully effective treatments. The conversion of fibroblasts to myofibroblasts is known to play a critical role in HS formation, making it essential to identify molecules that promote myofibroblast dedifferentiation and to elucidate their underlying mechanisms. In this study, we used comparative transcriptomics and single-cell sequencing to identify key molecules and pathways that mediate fibrosis and myofibroblast transdifferentiation.

Background: COVID-19 caused a huge backlog of patients in glaucoma clinics. This study describes redesign of an entire glaucoma service with electronic patient triage to three levels and utilisation of the Scottish optometry infrastructure of upskilled optometrists.
Methods: 2276 patients in glaucoma clinics were identified and triaged to three levels in keeping with Glauc-strat-fast guidance with local amendments.

DOPA Decarboxylase (DDC) has been proposed as a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarker with increased concentrations in Lewy body disorders (LBDs) and highest levels in patients receiving dopaminergic treatment. Here we evaluate plasma DDC, measured by proximity extension assay, and the effect of dopaminergic treatment in three independent LBD (with a focus on dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Parkinson's disease (PD)) cohorts: an autopsy-confirmed cohort (n = 71), a large multicenter, cross-dementia cohort (n = 1498) and a longitudinal cohort with detailed treatment information (n = 66, median follow-up time[IQR] = 4[4, 4] years). Plasma DDC was not altered between different LBDs and other disease groups or controls in absence of treatment.

The distinctive characteristics of an individual's T cell receptor repertoire are crucial in recognizing and responding to a diverse array of antigens, contributing to immune specificity and adaptability. The repertoire, famously vast due to a series of cellular mechanisms, can be quantified using repertoire sequencing. In this study, we sampled the repertoire of 85 women: ovarian cancer patients (OC) and healthy donors (HD), generating a dataset of T cell clones and their abundance.

Background: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a significant global health challenge, demanding attention and intervention. Despite many STIs being manageable, their asymptomatic nature poses a formidable threat to both mental and physical well-being. This silent impact can lead to substantial morbidity and mortality, which is particularly pronounced in East Africa.
