[reaction: see text] The conjugate addition of dithiols to bis-ynones generates a versatile masked 1,3,5-triketone platform. These functional units are useful intermediates for the synthesis of oxygen-containing heterocycles commonly found in polyketide natural products. The tetrahydropyranyl fragments of the marine macrolides Lyngbouilloside and Callipeltoside A have been synthesized with use of this methodology.

Impact of pre-crosslinks on the self-transformation performance of thermoplastic polyesters into vitrimers intermolecular transesterification.

RSC Adv

We recently proposed a concept of self-transformation from thermoplastic polyesters into vitrimers intermolecular bond exchange as the cross-linking reaction. Key was the use of polyesters bearing hydroxyl side groups, which were cross-linked without additional cross-linkers through intermolecular transesterification in the presence of a suitable catalyst. In our previous study, a linear polyester was synthesized as the starting polymer by reacting dithiol monomers containing ester bonds (2-SH) with diepoxy monomers (2-epoxy) a thiol-epoxy reaction, generating hydroxyl side groups along the polyester chain.

The dithiol mechanism of class I glutaredoxins promotes specificity for glutathione as a reducing agent.

Class I glutaredoxins reversibly reduce glutathione- and nonglutathione disulfides with the help of reduced glutathione (GSH) using either a monothiol mechanism or a dithiol mechanism. The monothiol mechanism exclusively involves a single glutathionylated active-site cysteinyl residue, whereas the dithiol mechanism requires the additional formation of an intramolecular disulfide bond between the active-site cysteinyl residue and a resolving cysteinyl residue. While the oxidation of glutaredoxins by glutathione disulfide substrates has been extensively characterized, the enzyme-substrate interactions for the reduction of S-glutathionylated glutaredoxins or intramolecular glutaredoxin disulfides are still poorly characterized.

Polycrystalline perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have shown great promise with high efficiency and easy processability. However, PeLEDs using single-cation polycrystalline perovskite emitters have demonstrated low efficiency due to defects within the grains and at the interfaces between the perovskite layer and the charge injection contact. Thus, simultaneous defect engineering of perovskites to suppress exciton loss within the grains and at the interfaces is crucial for achieving high efficiency in PeLEDs.

Turkevich syntheses represent a foundational approach for forming colloids of monodisperse gold nanoparticles where the use of these structures as building blocks when forming multicomponent nanoassemblies is pervasive. The core-satellite motif, which is characterized by a central core structure onto which satellite structures are tethered, distinguishes itself in that it can realize numerous plasmonic nanogaps with nanometer scale widths. Established procedures for assembling these multicomponent structures are, to a large extent, empirically driven, time-consuming, difficult to reproduce, and in need of a strong mechanistic underpinning relating to the close-range electrostatic interactions needed to secure satellite structures onto core materials.

Plasmon-driven substitution of 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid to 4-nitrothiophenol monitored by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy.

Plasmon-driven reactions on plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) occur under significantly different conditions from those of classical organic synthesis and provide a promising pathway for enhancing the efficiency of various chemical processes. However, these reactions can also have undesirable effects, such as 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid (MPBA) deboronation. MPBA chemisorbs well to Ag NPs through its thiol group and can subsequently bind to diols, enabling the detection of various biological structures by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), but not upon its deboronation.
