A 23-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for evaluation of syncope and intracardiac masses. Echocardiography revealed three masses in the right ventricle and one in the left ventricle. The largest mass, 4 by 5 cm, occupied the right ventricular outflow tract and prolapsed through the pulmonary valve orifice. Right ventricular systolic pressure was 65 mmHg. A soft mass, 4 by 5 cm, was found on the left subcostal abdominal wall and multiple pigmented spots on the face and trunk. Histological examination of the resected tumors, including the abdominal soft mass, were consistent with myxoma. The combination of multiple cardiac and abdominal wall myxomas and pigmented skin lesions in this young patient is considered to be a diagnostic feature of Carney complex.

Body fat percentage (BF%) is routinely measured in athletes to monitor training and dietary interventions. Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is widely considered the gold standard body composition measurement technique, but DXA BF% values measure consistently higher than other techniques. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to determine the lowest DXA-estimated whole-body fat mass in free-living athletes with unrestricted access to food.

This work presents an investigation of the influence of poly(-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) polymer on the structural dynamics of intrinsically disordered alpha-synuclein (α-syn) protein, exploring the formation and intricate features of the resulting α-syn/PNIPAM complexes. Using atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, our study analyzes the impact of initial configuration, polymer molecular weight, and protein mutations on the α-syn and the α-syn/PNIPAM complex. Atomistic simulations, of a few μs, of the protein/polymer complex reveal crucial insights into molecular interactions within the complex, emphasizing a delicate balance of forces governing its stability and structural evolution.

An 84-year-old lady presented with 1 day history of sudden onset generalized abdominal pain, fevers, and peritonism. Computed tomography was suggestive of a mid-small bowel perforation associated with a distal ovoid soft tissue density structure without pneumobilia. An urgent laparotomy demonstrated two areas of jejunal diverticula necrosis and perforation associated with a 3 cm luminal mass in the proximal ileum, and proximal small bowel dilatation.

Background: Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) represents one of the rarer forms of plasma cell malignancies, capable of impacting a variety of tissues and organs throughout the body. The majority of EMP cases are predominantly found in the head and neck region, especially within the laryngopharynx, as well as in the gastrointestinal tract. While there have been documented instances of oropharyngeal involvement in EMP cases in the academic literature, it is important to note that EMP specifically affecting the uvula is exceedingly uncommon.

Purpose We aimed to report an innovative single-site endoscopic surgery for soft tissue lesions performed at our center. Methods All patients who underwent soft tissue surgery were reviewed. All consecutive patients who underwent single-site endoscopic surgery between September 2019 and March 2024 were included in the study.
