Background: The use of ultrasonography increased the frequency of diagnosis of cholelithiasis in childhood.
Aim: To determine the clinical and laboratory features and follow up of children with biliary stones.
Patients And Methods: Twenty six children (13 male, aged 1 month to 14 years) were prospectively enrolled.
Results: Nine children had a past medical history of factors potentially predisposing to stones. A clinical presentation with vomiting (50%), abdominal pain (46%) and jaundice (23%) was the most common indication for surgery. The diagnosis was based on abdominal ultrasound in all children. Cholecystectomy was performed in 15 children (laparoscopy in 13 and open surgery in 2). Children who underwent surgery were older than those who did not undergo surgery (p < 0.001), but they did not have differences in liver function tests. Eight children had pigmented stones and seven had cholesterol stones.
Conclusions: In our patients, neither family history nor laboratory tests were useful in the diagnosis as well as in the clinical decision of surgery, which was based on symptoms. The presence of cholesterol stones in a high proportion of these children may be a unique situation in Chile, considering the high prevalence of this disease in the adult population.

Background: Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), and may cause fever, nausea, headache, or meningitis. It is currently unclear whether the epidemiological characteristics of the JEV have been affected by the extreme climatic conditions that have been observed in recent years.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the epidemiological characteristics, trends, and potential risk factors of JE in Taiwan from 2008 to 2020.

Multivariate pattern analysis was recently extended with covariate projections to solve the challenging task of modelling and interpreting associations in the presence of linear dependent multivariate covariates. Within a joint model, this approach allows quantification of the net association pattern between the outcome and the explanatory variables and between the individual covariates and these variables. The aim of this paper is to apply this methodology to establish the net multivariate association pattern between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and a high-resolution linear dependent physical activity (PA) intensity descriptor derived from accelerometry in children and to validate the crucial sub-regions in the PA spectrum predicting CRF.

Objectives: This study compared cognitive flexibility (CF) and emotion recognition (ER) in adolescents with eating disorders (ED) to a healthy group.
Methods: Forty healthy individuals aged 12-18 years with no psychiatric diagnosis and 46 patients diagnosed with anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), or binge eating disorder (BED) according to DSM-5 criteria participated. CF was assessed using the Cognitive Flexibility Scale (CFS), Stroop Test, and Berg Card Sorting Test (BCST), while ER was evaluated using the test of perception of affect via nonverbal cues.

Background: Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor, typically treated with normofractionated craniospinal irradiation (CSI) with an additional boost over about 6 weeks in children older than 3 years. This study investigates the sensitivity of pediatric medulloblastoma cell lines to different radiation fractionation schedules. While extensively studied in adult tumors, these ratios remain unknown in pediatric cases due to the rarity of the disease.

Background: According to WHO, "noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people" annually, as the primary cause of death globally. WHO's Global Action Plan for the prevention and control of NCDs 2013-2020 (extended) tackles this issue and its implications regarding inequalities between countries and populations. Based on combined behavioural, environmental and policy approaches, health promotion aims to reduce health inequities and address health determinants through 3 strategies: education, prevention and protection.
