AI Article Synopsis

  • A case was reported involving a child with cloacal exstrophy, featuring a fused phallus inside the urinary bladder.
  • Surgical exploration showed that the phallus was made from joined corpus cavernosum and was fully encased in bladder tissue.
  • The surgery involved separating the phallus from the bladder, repositioning it, creating a new urethra, and covering it with skin flaps while preserving some bladder tissue for a natural appearance.

Article Abstract

We report a case of a fused phallus located within the urinary bladder in a child with cloacal exstrophy. Surgical exploration revealed a phallus formed by fusion of the left and right corpus cavernosum and completely covered by bladder urothelium. The phallus was surgically separated from the bladder and mobilized to a more normal position and a neourethra created from tubularized bladder urothelium. Skin coverage was done using perineal skin flaps to cover the penile shaft, with the bladder urothelium covering the tip of the phallus being left intact to provide the appearance of a glans penis.

Metabolism and effects of acetoaceto--toluidine in the urinary bladder of humanized-liver mice.

Occupational exposure to aromatic amines is a major risk factor for urinary bladder cancer. Our previous studies showed that acetoaceto--toluidine, which is produced using -toluidine as a raw material, promotes urinary bladder carcinogenesis in rats. We also found high concentrations of -toluidine, a human bladder carcinogen, in the urine of acetoaceto--toluidine-treated rats, indicating that urinary -toluidine derived from acetoaceto--toluidine may play an important role in bladder carcinogenesis.

Background: Lower urinary tract disease is a common clinical condition in dogs, usually presenting with dysuria, pollakiuria and haematuria. Diabetes mellitus is a predisposing factor for urinary tract infection in both humans and dogs and does not necessarily present with clinical signs. In this case report, we describe for the first time a case of cystitis glandularis in a dog with diabetes mellitus, associated with Escherichia coli urinary tract infection.

Impaired bladder compliance secondary to congenital or acquired bladder dysfunction can lead to irreversible kidney damage. This is managed with surgical augmentation utilizing intestinal tissue, which can cause stone formation, infections, and malignant transformation. Co-seeded bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)/CD34+ hematopoietic stem cell (HSPC) scaffolds (PRS) have been successful in regenerating bladder tissue.

Tissue engineering has been considered a potential choice for urinary system reconstruction. Here, we aim to a broad spectrum of employed stem cells in bladder regeneration by performing a comprehensive systematic review. In January 2024, we searched Scopus, PubMed, and Embase databases for studies that tried bladder regeneration by tissue engineering using stem cells.

Identities of functional pSer/Thr.Pro protein substrates of the PIN1 prolyl isomerase and its effects on downstream signaling in bladder carcinogenesis remain largely unknown. Phenotypically, we found that PIN1 positively regulated bladder cancer cell proliferation, cell motility and urothelium clearance capacity in vitro and controlled tumor growth and potential metastasis in vivo.
