Objective: To review the pathogenesis and treatment of optic disc swelling in neurosarcoidosis, including a novel therapeutic response to infliximab.
Design And Setting: Case reports from an inpatient neurology service.
Patients: A 35-year-old woman presented with headache, chronic visual loss, papilledema, and optic atrophy, characteristic of chronic intracranial hypertension. Magnetic resonance imaging showed bifrontal cerebral edema with en plaque frontal pachymeningeal enhancement. Her visual loss progressed despite conventional therapies. The use of the tumor necrosis factor alpha antagonist infliximab maintained functional vision in her right eye. A 57-year-old woman presented with bilateral, subacute, painful visual loss and unilateral papillitis consistent with optic neuritis. Her visual loss responded rapidly to intravenous corticosteroids. The funduscopic examination findings in both patients prompted further clinical investigation, culminating in the diagnosis of neurosarcoidosis.
Conclusion: Understanding the multiple etiologic mechanisms that produce optic disc swelling in sarcoidosis can help neurologists tailor treatment for patients with neurosarcoidosis who present with this symptom.

The scattering of tiny particles in the atmosphere causes a haze effect on remote sensing images captured by satellites and similar devices, significantly disrupting subsequent image recognition and classification. A generative adversarial network named TRPC-GAN with texture recovery and physical constraints is proposed to mitigate this impact. This network not only effectively removes haze but also better preserves the texture information of the original remote sensing image, thereby enhancing the visual quality of the dehazed image.

Many conditions, such as pulmonary edema, bleeding, atelectasis or collapse, lung cancer, and shadow formation after radiotherapy or surgical changes, cause Lung Opacity. An unsupervised cross-domain Lung Opacity detection method is proposed to help surgeons quickly locate Lung Opacity without additional manual annotations. This study proposes a novel method based on adversarial learning to detect Lung Opacity on chest X-rays.

Introduction: Women with early bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) have greater Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk than women with spontaneous menopause (SM), but the pathway toward this risk is understudied. Considering associative memory deficits may reflect early signs of AD, we studied how BSO affected brain activity underlying associative memory.
Methods: Early midlife women with BSO (with and without 17β-estradiol therapy [ET]) and age-matched controls (AMCs) with intact ovaries completed a face-name associative memory task during functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Choroid neovascularization (CNV) is a distinct type of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with a poor prognosis and responsible for the majority of vision loss in the elderly population. The laser-induced CNV model is a well-established animal model frequently used to study CNV. In this study, we performed an integrated analysis of metabolomic and transcriptomic data from CNV samples, utilizing multiple approaches including single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA), correlation analysis, and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), alongside various bioinformatics platforms, to identify key metabolic and immune signatures and to investigate their interplay during angiogenesis.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a primary systemic vasculitis affecting the elderly, characterized by a granulomatous vessel wall inflammation of large- and medium-sized arteries. The immunopathology of GCA is complex, involving both the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system, where a maladaptive inflammatory-driven vascular repair process ultimately results in vessel wall thickening, intramural vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation, neovascularization and vessel lumen occlusion, which can lead to serious ischemic complications such as visual loss and ischemic stroke. Over the past decade, microRNA (miRNA) dysregulation has been highlighted as an important contributing factor underlying the pathogenesis of GCA.
