In the past 50 years, new health policies all over the world have led to the introduction of rehabilitation and deinstitutionalization programs to overcome the depersonalizing effects of asylums. As a result, large numbers of former psychiatric patients are now living and working in society. The public's attitudes and beliefs about these former patients play a central role in their harmonious integration into the community. To find out more about these attitudes and beliefs, we interviewed a representative sample of the population of Montreal Island (n = 899). Our study indicates that a majority of respondents show a favourable attitude towards former psychiatric patients (in terms of recognizing their rights, accepting them in the workplace, creating warm relationships, etc.), but that people still entertain many negative beliefs (seeing mental illness as a deviation from the norm). The study interprets these ambivalent signs of tolerance and fear towards ex-psychiatric patients among Montrealers. An encouraging sign is that a trend towards greater acceptance seems to be emerging among young people in terms of both attitudes and beliefs.

Background: Variants in the GABRA2 gene, which encodes the α2 subunit of the γ-aminobutyric acid A receptor, have been linked to a rare form of developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) referred to as DEE78. Only eight patients have been reported globally. This study presents the clinical presentation and genetic analysis of a Chinese family with a child diagnosed with DEE78, due to a novel GABRA2 variant.

Background: Anxiety disorders are common in alcohol use disorder (AUD) treatment patients. Such co-occurring conditions ("comorbidity") have negative prognostic implications for AUD treatment outcomes, yet they commonly go unaddressed in standard AUD care. Introduction/aims: A previous randomized controlled trial showed that guided self-help acceptance and commitment therapy plus standard medical care (ACT+SMC) was superior to standard medical care alone (SMC) for improving quality of life (QoL) and mood at 9-weeks post randomization in a sample of people with muscle disorders (MD). This follow-up study evaluated whether these effects were maintained in the longer term alongside individual patterns of response.
Methods: The original study was a two-arm parallel group randomized controlled trial, which compared ACT+SMC to SMC.

Material And Methods: We aimed to produce a consensus recommendation from Polish movement disorders experts after discussing gaps in the APD care pathway in Poland.
Results: Rescue therapy with apomorphine (APO) PEN injection and levodopa-entacapone-carbidopa intestinal gel infusion are not included in Poland's Specialist Therapeutic Programme, and are thus not reimbursed.
