[Retinal and retinal pigment epithelium hamartoma].

Cesk Slov Oftalmol

Ocné oddelenie Nemocnice, Bojnice.

Published: November 2002

Authors present four patients with combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium who were observed for a period of 10 years. The significance of this entity lies primarily in its resemblance to malignant condition of the retina and choroid and in the vizual reduction. Clinical finding, diagnosis, natural history, histopathology, association with other diseases and therapy are discussed in this report as well.

Purpose: To report the clinical presentation and follow-up, including the optical coherence tomography, angiography and electrophysiology of two individuals from the same family presenting with an isolated retinal dystrophy and optic nerve edema who were diagnosed with ROSAH-like syndrome.

Method: Observational case report of a 55-year-old woman and her 36-year-old son with a genetic analysis of ROSAH, after a long-term follow-up.

Results: Both the mother and her son displayed severe optic nerve infiltration and retinal pigment atrophy with intraocular inflammation, which were not improved by immunosuppressive treatment.

The aim of the study was todescribe the clinical features, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging in patients with choroidal and retinal tumors. Ninety eyes of 89 patients with treatment-naive macular, midperipheral, and juxtapapillary choroidal and retinal tumors were retrospectively included in the study. All patients underwent a complete ophthalmic examination, B-mode ultrasonography, OCT, and FAF imaging.

Purpose: To validate the quantification of the prominent middle limiting membrane (PMLM) sign, a marker of mild-to-moderate acute ischemic damage on optical coherence tomography (OCT), by measuring middle limiting membrane (MLM) reflectivity in patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and to investigate the prognostic impact of this measure.

Methods: Spectral Domain (SD)-OCT B-scans of 30 patients with CRVO, either sole CRVO or combined central retinal artery and vein occlusion (CCRAVO), were analyzed retrospectively and graded as PMLM present or absent. Normalized MLM reflectivity was calculated as a ratio of the maximum reflectivity within a MLM target layer and the average reflectivity of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE).

Purpose: To identify optical coherence tomography (OCT)-based imaging biomarkers that can localize focal leakage points without fluorescein angiography in central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC).

Methods: This retrospective case-control study analyzed 119 consecutive patients (123 eyes) with CSC between April 2018 and February 2024, comprising 66 eyes with focal-leakage type and 57 eyes with diffuse-leakage type. We assessed leakage sites using OCT, and the proportions of OCT findings were compared between focal- and diffuse-leakage types.

DNA-Dependent Protein Kinase Catalytic Subunit Prevents Ferroptosis in Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells.

Department of Ophthalmology of Tongji Hospital and Laboratory of Clinical and Visual Sciences of Tongji Eye Institute, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the activated core kinases involved in the DNA damage responses (DDR) during ferroptosis of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells in vitro and their regulatory effects on ferroptosis.

Methods: Ferroptosis was induced by erastin in induced RPE (iRPE) cells derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs), hUCMSCs, and induced pluripotent stem cell-derived RPE (iPSC-RPE) cells. CCK8 was employed to measure the cell viability.
