This 1997-1999 study replicates an earlier one (1995-1997) in which coronial cases were reviewed at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Australia. Ten percent of the 2945 cases were considered accidental illicit drug deaths, compared to 4% in the previous study. Heroin was associated with 90% of the deaths, but in only 17% of these cases as a single drug. Concomitant drug use, in particular alcohol, benzodiazepines, and antidepressants, has increased considerably. The combined effects of these substances might play a role in the disturbingly large increase in heroin (morphine) related deaths during this period.

Frequent and severe occurrences of harmful algal blooms increasingly threaten human health by the release of microcystins (MCs). Urgent attention is directed toward managing MCs, as evidenced by rising HAB-related do not drink/do not boil advisories due to unsafe MC levels in drinking water. UV/chlorine treatment, in which UV light is applied simultaneously with chlorine, showed early promise for effectively degrading MC-LR to values below the World Health Organization's guideline limits.

Probiotics exert their beneficial effects by improving the intestinal environment. Heat-inactivated probiotics may show similar effects. However, whether multi-strain mixtures (MSM) are better than single strains, irrespective of whether the bacteria are alive or dead, is unknown.

There is a need to study the early and efficient biomarkers of Parkinsons, such as changes in structural disorders like DNA and chromatin, especially at the subcellular level in the human brain. We used two techniques, Partial wave spectroscopy (PWS) and Inverse Participation Ratio (IPR), to detect the changes in structural disorder in the human brain tissue samples.

Submerged or partially floating seagrasses in marine or brackish waters form productive seagrass beds, feeding grounds for a rich and varied associated biota, play key ecological roles in mitigating climate change and provide ecosystem services for humanity. The objective of this study was to perform a temporal quali- and quantitative analysis on the scientific production on seagrasses in the Atlantic Ocean during last 64 years (1960 to 2024) through defined workflow by scientometric analysis on Scopus database. Publications in this database date back to 1969, comprising a total of 3.
