In this communication we report 46 cases of acute liver failure in children diagnosed at the Hospital Infantil Nossa Senhora da Glória in Vitória, E Santo. Serology for IgM anti-HAV, IgM anti-HBc, HbsAg, anti-HCV and biochemical tests were performed in all cases in a routine laboratory. The M/F ratio was 1.1:1 and the mean age was 4.7 +/- 3.2 years, without gender difference. Anti-HAV IgM+ in 38 (82.6%) cases, anti-HbcIgM+ in two (4.3%) cases and 6 (13.1%) cases were negative for all viral markers investigated. Anti-HCV+ in one anti-HAV IgM+ case. HbsAg+ in two anti-HbcIgM+ and in two HAVIgM+ cases. Among the six A, B and C negative cases, four (8.6%) did not have the suspected exogenous intoxication. Mortality was 50%, without gender or age differences. These results demonstrate that HAV infection is the main etiology of acute liver failure in children in Brazil, confirming that, although it is a self limited, relatively mild illness, it can cause serious and even fatal disease. The observation of four cases without A, B and C viral markers and no history of exogenous intoxication, agree with the observation of non A-E acute sporadic hepatitis in Northeastern Brazil.

Purpose: Perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a significant cause of neonatal brain injury. Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the standard treatment for term neonates, but its safety and efficacy in neonates < 36 weeks gestational age (GA) remains unclear. This case series aimed to evaluate the outcomes of preterm infants with HIE treated with TH.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a rare, life-threatening condition that may be secondary to drug-induced liver injury (DILI) and certain viral infections. We present the case of a 73-year-old male with a history of fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis with a progressive phenotype, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, who was admitted with ALF potentially secondary to DILI. Prior to admission, he was receiving therapy that may be related to idiosyncratic DILI (I-DILI) and ALF, namely nintedanib, which appears to have a most probable relation to I-DILI in this case, considering it was the most recently started drug.

Acute decompensation in cirrhotic patients signifies the onset of clinically evident events due to portal hypertension. The transition from compensated to decompensated cirrhosis involves hemodynamic changes leading to multiorgan dysfunction, managed predominantly in outpatient settings with regular monitoring. The mortality risk is elevated in decompensated patients.

Objective: To harvest the primary Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph) cells of B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and to establish the B-ALL mouse model.
Methods: The plasmid carrying fusion gene was transferred into the bone marrow(BM) cells of C57BL/6J mice by retrovirus. Syngeneic mice irradiated with 9 Gy of Co γ-ray were injected with the transfected BM cells as the first generation (G1), and then the primary cells from the spleen and BM of the diseased mice were obtained and frozen.

Objective: To investigate and assess hemolytic transfusion reaction in patient with complex and combined anti-Fy and anti-Jk which so as to provide a safety blood transfusion strategy.
Methods: ABO/Rh blood grouping, antibody screening and identification, and Coombs' tests were performed by the routine serological methods include manual tube and automatic blood group analyzer with matching micro-column gel cards from Diagnostic Grifols and Jiangsu LIBO. The hospital information system and laboratory information system were used to collect dada on patients' blood routine tests, liver and kidney function, coagulation, cardiac function, and other clinical indicators before and after blood transfusion were analyzed and compared in conjunction with the patients' clinical manifestations.
