Older adults experiencing acute pain are often underassessed and undertreated. This review summarizes recommendations from an evidence-based practice guideline on acute pain management in older adults. Key areas highlighted are pain assessment and monitoring, patient education, pharmacologic management, and nonpharmacologic management.

This paper described a case of talus osteonecrosis in a 13-year-old female with a diagnosis of T-type acute lymphocytic leukemia, who underwent chemotherapy and treatment with glucocorticoids, attended at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Sector of our institution. After approximately six months of treatment, the patient began to complain of sporadic pain in her left ankle with progressive worsening. Bone scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging of the ankles showed the presence of avascular osteonecrosis of the bilateral talar body.

Transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) molecule is an important type of transient receptor potential (TRP) cation channels, which can cause extracellular Ca to flow into cells after activation. TRPA1 plays an important role in acute and chronic pain, inflammation, kidney disease, cough and asthma, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, and other diseases. In this study, the expression of interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, and IL-8 in periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) treated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and the effect of LPS on PDLSCS proliferation were detected.

Cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy (CSEP) is localized over the scar of a previous cesarean section. CSEP is a challenging entity, both in terms of diagnosis and management. The clinical presentation of CSEP may vary from asymptomatic patients with positive urine pregnancy tests to acute presentations such as pelvic pain, bleeding per vaginum, uterine rupture, and hemodynamic instability.

Adnexal torsion is a well-recognized gynecologic emergency; however, uterine torsion is less well-known. The majority of uterine torsions occur in gravid uteri; torsion in postmenopausal patients is rare. We report a case of uterine and bilateral adnexal torsion in a postmenopausal woman due to a large leiomyoma.
