Accurate human-specific DNA quantification is essential for forensic casework analysis. In this work, we describe a microplate-based quantification assay that utilizes the PCR amplification of human-specific TH01 primers. This method enables the reliable quantification of human DNA samples from 0.2 to 40 ng, even in mixtures with nonhuman DNA. Analysis of samples can be semi-automated using 96-well microplates and a spreadsheet-based concentration calculator for high-throughput demands. We have used this quantification method with more than 15,000 forensic samples.

Rationale: Smoking has been shown to be associated with circulating deficiencies in 25(OH)D3 and reduced sinonasal tissue levels of the active form of vitamin D, 1,25(OH)2D3. Given vitamin D's ability to reduce inflammation, we sought to examine if intranasal (IN) delivery of calcitriol [clinical analog of 1,25(OH)2D3] could reduce inflammation and improve disease severity in a murine model of chronic cigarette smoke-induced sinonasal inflammation (CS-SI).
Methods: Mice were exposed to CS 5 h/day, 5 days/week for 9 months, and then began IN calcitriol three times per week for 4 weeks.

Quantification of modal mineralogy in drill-core samples is crucial for understanding the geology and metal deportment in a mining operation. This study assesses conventional procedures to quantify modal mineralogy, that includes an initial drill-core logging, followed by petrographic descriptions and SEM-based automated mineralogy analyses performed in selected regions of interest, against a novel approach using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). Our proposed methodology aims to quantify the modal mineralogy directly in a drill-core sample, avoiding previous stages of selection and preparation of samples.

Background: In cases of maternal primary infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV-MPI) maternal treatment with oral valaciclovir 8 g/day has been shown to reduce the risk of fetal infection. The pharmacological profile of this high dosage during pregnancy is not yet known.
Objectives: To quantify maternal-fetal exposure to valaciclovir 8 g/day in a population pharmacokinetic (popPK) study.

In the context of the energy transition, European countries pursue the common goal of increasing the share of renewable gases (from anaerobic digestion, pyrogasification, and hydrothermal gasification for instance) in the gas mix. Although produced gases are mainly composed of methane after upgrading, impurities of various natures and quantities may also be present in the produced raw gases and still after upgrading, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at trace levels that may have an impact on different stages of the gas chain even at low concentrations. These new renewable and/or low-carbon gases imply the need to develop new analytical tools to deeply characterize them, and thus fully manage their integration into the gas value chain.

Kiwifruit Vine Decline Syndrome (KVDS) is a soilborne disease affecting Actinidia fruit trees in perennial cropping systems. Since its emergence in 2012, studies have increasingly identified the oomycete as a major causative agent of the disease. is also implicated in complex soilborne disease systems of woody perennial crops, including replant disease in apple and pear.
