Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most lethal malignancies with limited understanding of etiology. Studies in mice showed that both acinar and ductal cells of the pancreas can be targeted by combination of oncogenic Kras and p53 mutations to form PDAC. How the transforming capacities of pancreatic cells are constrained, and whether a subset of cells could serve as a prime target for oncogenic transformation, remain obscure.

British-born Dr Edward Waldegrave Wardley (MRCSL, 1842) is an unacknowledged pioneer in the history of mental health care in Australia. Between 1857 and 1872, he assisted in the development of a policy of non-restraint across lunatic asylums in New South Wales (NSW). He then went on to extend this approach to the treatment of NSW's criminally insane patients.

Background: Fringe is a glycosyltransferase involved in tumor occurrence and metastasis. However, a comprehensive analysis of the Fringe family members lunatic fringe (LFNG), manic fringe (MFNG), radical fringe (RFNG) in human cancers is lacking.
Methods: In this study, we performed a pan-cancer analysis of Fringe family members in 33 cancer types with transcriptomic, genomic, methylation data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project.

Objectives: To provide a brief biography of Dr Richard Greenup and to explore the legacy he has left to one of Australia's longest operating psychiatric services.
Methods: This history was obtained by consulting staff working within Cumberland Hospital, New South Wales and by examining primary and secondary sources.
Results: Greenup was the second surgeon superintendent of 'The Parramatta Lunatic Asylum' from 1852 until 1866 when he was fatally stabbed with a pair of scissors by a patient.

This paper explores the relations between light and dark/white and black disclosed in a study of Gartnavel Royal Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, where an old Victorian lunatic asylum remains, if becoming ruined, on the same site as a modern mental healthcare campus. In-depth interview work recovering the 'spatial stories' of patients and staff, past and present, reveals a complex mixture of positive and negative memories and interpretations prompted by both the 'darkened spaces' of Old Gartnavel and the liveliness associated with both sets of spaces. These findings are framed by (a) a reading of Badiou's short monograph on Black (Badiou, 2017) and (b) an engagement with light and dark studies, both of which suggest a rebalancing of the normal valuations whereby dark/black is cast as the realm of death, everything that deadens and threatens life, whereas light/white is cast as that of life, liveliness and vitality.
