Herein, we demonstrate a practical dual ligand-enabled iron photocatalysis paradigm-converting all kinds of halogen-containing carboxylates (C X COO, X: F, Cl, Br) into C X radicals for the valuable chloro/fluoro-polyhaloalkylation of non-activated alkenes with easily available trichloroacetonitrile/Selectfluor as the electrophilic halogenation reagent. The modular assembly of the effective iron and C X COO-based light-harvesting species using the two ligands-OMe/CF-substituted bipyridine and acetonitrile/trichloroacetonitrile is evidenced by detailed mechanistic studies. The late-stage modification, low loading amount of iron (TON: 257) and feasible gram-scale synthesis show the utility of this protocol.

Researchers have been motivated to develop photovoltaic systems that can efficiently convert artificial light into power with the growing use of indoor electrical devices for the Internet of Things. Understanding the impact of molecular design strategies involving morphological optimization through the terminal group of the non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) is crucial. This is critically important to enhancing the photovoltaic efficiency of organic photovoltaic devices under diverse irradiation conditions.

TiO Menes: Quantum Spin Hall Effect and Promising Semiconductors for Light-Harvesting.

The continuous pursuit of novel two-dimensional (2D) materials with intriguing properties has been a driving force in advancing various scientific and technological frontiers. Here, based on a wide range of first-principles calculations, we predicted the existence of a novel family of 2D transition-metal oxides, the TiO Menes (MXene-like 2D transition oxides), and determined its distinctive electronic and topological properties. A pair of 2D antiferromagnetic (AFM) Dirac points precisely located at the Fermi level in the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is observed in the 1T-TiO monolayer.

Iron photocatalysis via Brønsted acid-unlocked ligand-to-metal charge transfer.

Reforming sustainable 3d-metal-based visible light catalytic platforms for inert bulk chemical activation is highly desirable. Herein, we demonstrate the use of a Brønsted acid to unlock robust and practical iron ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) photocatalysis for the activation of multifarious inert haloalkylcarboxylates (CXCOO, X = F or Cl) to produce CX radicals. This process enables the fluoro-polyhaloalkylation of non-activated alkenes by combining easily available Selectfluor as a fluorine source.

The binary metal oxide mesoporous interfacial layers (bi-MO meso IF layer) templated by a graft copolymer are synthesized between a fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate and nanocrystalline TiO (nc-TiO). Amphiphilic graft copolymers, Poly(epichlorohydrin)--poly(styrene), PECH--PS, were used as a structure-directing agent, and the fabricated bi-MO meso IF layer exhibits good interconnectivity and high porosity. Even if the amount of ZnO in bi-MO meso IF layer increased, it was confirmed that the morphology and porosity of the bi-MO meso IF layer were well-maintained.
