An approach to X-ray attenuation correction for diffraction anomalous fine-structure (DAFS) measurements is presented, taking into account energy-dependent secondary extinction effects. A numerical model based on the kinematical theory of diffraction is presented. This model is exemplified by DAFS measurements of the Zr 0002 reflection intensities for energies in the vicinity of the Zr K absorption edge of a Co/Zr multilayer exhibiting strong fibre texture. X-ray absorption fine-structure (XAFS) measurements proved to be a necessary auxiliary for DAFS amplitude correction.

Introduction: Body composition evaluation can be used to assess patients' nutritional status to predict clinical outcomes. To facilitate reliable and time-efficient body composition measurements eligible for clinical practice, fully automated computed tomography segmentation methods were developed. The aim of this study was to evaluate automated segmentation by Data Analysis Facilitation Suite in an independent dataset.

The total photon economy of a chromophore molecular species represents a study of how absorbed photons partition among various electronic states and ultimately dissipate their excited energy into the environment. A complete accounting of these rates and pathways would allow one to optimize chromophores and their environments for applications. We describe a technique, fluorescent optical cycling (FOC), which allows for simultaneous observation of prompt and delayed emission during and after multiple pulsed excitation, ultimately granting access to multi-state photophysical rates.

Understanding the electronic structures of high-valent metal complexes aids the advancement of metal-catalyzed cross coupling methodologies. A prototypical complex with formally high valency is [Cu(CF ) ] (1), which has a formal Cu(III) oxidation state but whose physical analysis has led some to a Cu(I) assignment in an inverted ligand field model. Recent examinations of 1 by X-ray spectroscopies have led previous authors to contradictory conclusions, motivating the re-examination of its X-ray absorption profile here by a complementary method, resonant diffraction anomalous fine structure (DAFS).
