Background: FRAXE is a second locus associated with X chromosome fragility. Similar to FRAXA, the common mutation is a GCC expansion located in the 5' untranslated region, leading to the hypermethylation of the region and to the subsequent inactivation of specific genes (FMR1 and FMR2, respectively). Unlike FRAXA, FRAXE has a rare occurrence and is less currently studied in routine analyses. The phenotype associated with FRAXE is usually considered as mild or moderate mental retardation, with incomplete penetrance. However, phenotype/genotype relations have been less characterized.
Objective: We report a French family with three members affected with mental retardation, including a female suffering from West syndrome, and two mentally retarded males.
Methods: After exclusion of the FRAXA expansion by Southern blot analysis, we performed a karyotype using folate-thymidine-deficient medium and a southern blot to search for FRAXE expansion.
Results: All three mentally retarded patients had a number of repeats over 800 GCC and expressed more than 20% of fragile sites in their leukocytes. Another carrier female with a full expansion had a subnormal mental impairment.
Conclusions: Clinical features and both the cytogenetic and molecular findings seem to correlate in this family. We discuss the bias encountered when studying such families and some of the mechanisms that may explain part of the clinical variability.

Abdominal wall endometriosis (AWE) is a clinical disorder with unknown pathogenesis with an incidence between 0.03% and 1% in women affected by cutaneous/scar endometriosis. We investigated the pathological, molecular cytogenetic and cell proliferation features of a primary AWE developed in rectus abdominis muscle in a patient without co-existing pelvic endometriosis.

The accumulation of aniline in the natural environment poses a potential threat to crops, and thus, investigating the effects of aniline on plants holds practical implications for agricultural engineering and its affiliated industries. This study combined physiological, transcriptomic, and metabolomic methods to investigate the growth status and molecular-level response mechanisms of rice under stress from varying concentrations of aniline. At a concentration of 1 mg/L, aniline exhibited a slight growth-promoting effect on rice.

Acute myeloid leukemias (AMLs) comprise a group of genetically heterogeneous hematological malignancies that result in the abnormal growth of leukemic cells and halt the maturation process of normal hematopoietic stem cells. Despite using molecular and cytogenetic risk classification to guide treatment decisions, most AML patients survive for less than five years. A deeper comprehension of the disease's biology and the use of new, targeted therapy approaches could potentially increase cure rates.

The intraspecies and interspecies Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH) between the closely related Cebidae species, capuchin monkeys (, ), and the tamarins () was performed to analyze their genomes. In particular, this approach determines balanced and unbalanced repetitive DNA sequence distribution and reveals dynamics during evolution. Capuchin monkeys are considered the most ancestral group with conserved syntenies compared to the hypothetical ancestral New World monkeys' karyotype.
